I knocked three times before I entered Shad's office. "Please be seated, Mika." He had stopped reading the papers on his desk and looked at me. I was quite nervous about the way he was looking at me. "So? What do you want to talk about?" Shad asked. "It's about your healer. Since I was the only one at Snow Moon and left without an exchange, I wanted to ask if one of your healers could replace me. Could you send one of them to my old pack? They need a healer since I'm not there and a lot of girls are giving birth this month." I requested politely.
"You want me to give one of my healers to your pack?" He asked, looking in my eyes with seriousness. "Yes." I answered. "You're asking for too much Mika." I was shocked at his response. "As you can see, Isha is an old woman. Making her stay at your old pack would make her sick, not to mention the weather there is different." He pointed out. "How about the other one? She's still young and she can adapt easier to the climate change." I said. "Well.... Lauren is something.... I don't want to talk about." He said. "What do you mean?"
"Well I can't let them have my healer." Shad said. "What?!" I yelled at him. "Why!"
"Because one is old and the other was my gir——"
A knock on the door interrupted us. "Shad! I'm back!" A girl with blonde hair and ocean blue eyes came inside his office without even acknowledging me. "Lauren." Shad said. 'So, she's the other healer.' I said to myself. The girl ignored me and sat directly on Shad's lap. I raised my left eyebrow instantly. Shad looked at me like he wanted to tell me something but he couldn't. Great! The bastard has a girlfriend. "Excuse me." I turned around and left, ignoring the pain that surprisingly started to grow inside of me. What the hell. That prick has a girlfriend!
I heard Shad call my name but I ignored him and went straight to my clinic slamming the door shut, causing Carly to jump. "Lady Mika? What happened?" Carly asked. "Nothing. How's everything? Are you familiar now with how the clinic works?" I asked, changing the subject. "Yes Lady Mika! I now know what to do and the uses of the tools." She said proudly as she pointed to my tools. "Good. Now I need you to keep practicing in case of an emergency."
"Yes Lady Mika." She said.
I left her and went to my old room to rest. I felt different. I was too hot and my body was shaking. I had never felt that way before. Maybe I just needed to rest for a while.********
Shad's POV
********I tried to call after Mika but she ignored me. "Lauren, you know we aren't together anymore. Why did you act like that in front of Mika?" I asked pushing her off my lap. I already broke up with her before Mika arrived. The contract was more important to me. "Why was it a big deal? You only broke up with me because of that stupid contract." Lauren said. "We both know it was more then that. You're not my mate, Lauren. We need to let go. We tried but there was no potential connection." I said. "NO FUCKING WAY!" She shouted.
My wolf got mad instantly at her disrespectful actions. 'If I were you, I'd throw that girl out of our pack or else I'm going to kill her.' My wolf said. He really didn't want Lauren from the start. She was my childhood friend until we decided to be something more but because of my duties and the contact, I broke up with her. I also did it because of the possibility of having a real mate. "I need you to leave now Lauren. My wolf wants to kill you because of your actions." She hesitated at first but when I growled she hurried out of my office.
Now I needed to find Mika and explain. She might have misunderstood the situation. I followed her scent that lead me to her old room. Opening the door, I saw her peacefully sleeping. I looked at her. She was definitely beautiful, though that wasn't something I could admit to her. Mika was a beautiful woman. Her hair was as white as snow, her eyes were ice blue and her lips were so perfect. She was sexy and admirable. She out stood the others. Maybe because she was moon touched. Those kind of people with high abilities in healing were called moon touched. They were blessed with pale white skin, like the moon.
I couldn't help myself; I touched her face. A slight spark started to travel in my hand that made me pull away. 'A potential mate!' My wolf shouted inside my mind. 'No way! She couldn't be my mate. She didn't have a wolf. How could I confirm she was my mate?'
'Don't doubt your feelings. Stop controlling them and let go!' My wolf said.
I was about to touch her again when she slowly opened her eyes. "Shad? What are you doing in here?" She asked. "I came to talk to you." I replied. "Talk to me about what? I'm sleeping."
"About Lauren."
"Oh! About your girlfriend. It's fine Shad. We both have our own lives. This is just a damn contract." She said, turning her back to me. Was I assuming wrong or did she sound upset?
I lifted the covers and laid beside her. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Resting to." I said pulling her closer to me. "Hey! Don't touch me." Mika said trying to push me away but I slithered my arms around her waist. "Just listen first okay." I said. "O-Okay." She said. "Lauren was my girlfriend and best friend. I know her actions in front of you has lead you to think something bad but I wanted you to know that it's all over between her and I." I explained. "Why are you explaining this to me?" She asked. I could feel her heartbeat get faster.
That question caught me off guard and I asked myself the same question. 'Why was I explaining it to her?'
"I just want us to start over and be friends. Maybe we can work this thing out." I said. "Hmmmm... Why are you being so nice to me?" Mika asked again. "I don't know. Maybe because you're weak and I need to teach you some combat skills." I said jokingly. "Oh really?" She said.
With just one move my ass was on the floor. "What the hell?" I said. "You said to be alert at all times." Mika said while laughing. My world stopped at her laughter. Was she really my mate? Could she feel it to?
