You were beside one another, admiring the Qlipoth Fortress as you walked by and toward the Outlying Snow Plains. The conversation between you both had gone in and out, but for some reason, it felt normal. That was the longest you probably spoke to anyone willingly.
"I want to like everyone else, y'know? Like March definitely means well, and Stelle is pretty relatable. Caelus is... Well, he's..." You trailed off as you struggled to find the appropriate words. "You've certainly caught his eye, you know." Dan Heng let out an airy laugh and you looked away glumly, "That's what I was afraid of..." You sighed softly and he shrugged his shoulders beside you. "Love is... a trivial thing for you, I'm guessing?" He asked softly and you let out a quiet sigh in response. "I've only had one boyfriend, and the only reason we broke up is because I had to leave... His name was Jing Yuan. He didn't handle the breakup well, but can you blame him really?" You let out a pathetic laugh as you rubbed your shoulder anxiously.
"Jing Yuan..." Dan Heng repeated softly and you hummed quietly, "He was going to become the general once we graduated. Now that I think about it, my group of friends were all aspiring to do great things for the Luofu. My best friend, Sushang, dreamed of becoming a Cloud Knight... and her parents wouldn't take no for an answer anyway. Yanqing practiced with Jing Yuan and was determined to be a master swordsman and be Jing Yuan's second-in-command. Fu Xuan was destined to become the Master Diviner and Qingque... we still aren't sure but we weren't going to leave her behind! A-And Tingyun–"
"What about you, Y/n?" He cut you off abruptly and made you pause, his question not fully registering in your head as you looked up at him. "Me? What do you mean?" You asked and he stopped a couple steps ahead of you. "What did you want to do after school?" He asked again and you racked your brain for a response, but couldn't seem to find one. "I... I don't know actually. I think I wanted to work in the Realm-Keeping Commission... I wanted to decipher this Disciples of Sanctus Medicus situation and still be somewhat close to Jing Yuan because... we weren't supposed to end things the way we did..." You admitted softly before shaking your head, "But now that I'm here on the Astral Express going from place to place, it almost feels as if I was meant to become... a Trailblazer? I'm still unsure of it myself, but being here has made me feel lost, confused, and completely homesick." You explained further and he nodded along, being the great listener that you assumed he was.
Dan Heng opened his mouth to say something but paused when a high-pitched screech tore through the air. He turned around quickly and grabbed the polearm from his back, getting into a ready stance as I looked around for the source of the sound. "Y/n, stay back. It sounds like a monster of the Fragmentum." He kept his voice calm as he took cautious steps forward and scouted the area, "If you see anything, say something." He instructed and you nodded quickly, "O-Of course..!"
Since being on the Express, you had only heard of the encounters with Fragmentum monsters and the Antimatter Legion. When visiting Herta's Space Station, you had caught glimpses of the fragments left behind by the Fragmentum, but never a monster since the twins, March 7th, and Dan Heng apparently cleared out the station of all the Antimatter Legion. The Fragmentum monsters of Jarilo-VI had apparently been confined to Backwater Pass, Rivet Town, and anything past the Restricted Zone. Of course, you hadn't run into any danger since traveling with the Express, but that was because Welt and Himeko made sure you stayed in areas that were relatively safe. Since you had landed near the Outlying Plains and entered as a group, you assumed that it was safe. Clearly, you were wrong.
