I didn't go home until it was time for dinner, my anger and frustration can get the best of me. As I open the door my dad says,
"Just in time I got take-out." I couldn't say a single word because I am still pretty upset from earlier today. My dad then asks me the question,
"What's wrong?" I was caught off guard and had nothing to say. It would be way to awkward having this conversation about my personal life crisis with MY DAD.
"Now I don't know if I would be much help but you know I will always be here if you need anything." Just then I put him to the test.
"Well, I was asked to hang out with this guy from school and I agreed to. Then when school was dismissed I went to my locker like I always do and well the guy that asked me to hang out, his locker is only a few lockers down from mine so I saw him at his locker too. Before I was able to get to his attention a friend stops me. Asks me a question and by the time I was finished talking with my friend I noticed he left. Ok, so I thought he was meeting me at the beach. But that was not the case. I was waiting for him for hours but then I just gave up and I stayed at the beach to think it over and over and I just don't understand how he could stand me up like that. And believe me he went through a lot of trouble asking me out let alone he was probably chicken to actually have a great time opening up to someone other than himself." Finally I can breathe. But my dad just sits in silence hopefully gathering in all information and analyzing it to figure a solution. Then my dad replies,
"I though you were still getting over from the last boy that broke your heart.?"
"Ugh... Dad", I have to tell him the secret of girl break-up solutions, "us girls move one from a guy by selecting another guy. Whether we are just friends or we become romantically involved. Either way we find someone to be a replacement and usually it ends up being better than the last boy."
"So you basically find a rebound?" My dad asks and indirectly he was right.
"We don't like using that term it is just so demeaning to the other person's feelings." My dad just looks at me in confused matters. Then he went back to his Egg Foo Young.
"But dad, why would a guy ditch hanging out with a girl they're interested in?" As soon as I asked that question, I wished I hadn't. My dad was such great help with the previous question what makes you think he will actually help me with this one. But before he had the chance to answer I sort of elaborated the question into terms that he may relate to.
"Like, Why would you ditch a girl that you liked?"
"Well it would be one of two things: 1) I changed my mind or 2) I was persuaded that she was not in to me in the way I would be in to her. In most cases it would be reason #2."
"Maybe he changed his mind because I did no such thing to make him think I would not be interested. If anything I gave him hints that I WAS interested. I mean after all I did say yes to his invitation." I ranted, why did Jax have to do this to me. Why can't boys be simple; I thought us girls had to be the more complicated sex.
"Who was the friend that stopped to talk to you by your locker?" My dad asks, and by no means is this question ridiculous but also irrelevant.
"What does that have to do with anything?" My dad then demands me to answer his question.
"Ok, Ok; his name is Jason. All he wanted to talk to me about his that he was sorry for the way his girlfriend treated me during lunch and asked if I wanted to go to the volleyball tournament. Speaking of can I go to the volleyball tournament tomorrow?" My dad looks at me, "Sure. Now back to your situation, the problem is that he thought you were possibly flirting with Jason and walked out before you could catch up to him."
"Gosh, why do boys have to be so stupid and judgmental. They think they know everything, but they have the slightest clue. Thank you dad. Believe it or not you were a tremendous help." I gently kissed my dad good night and went to my bedroom. Tomorrow will be a busy day.
