Leo stands there looking straight into my eyes and began his opening statement, " I didn't make you drop your books. All I did was bump you, your hands decided to let go. But I'm guessing based on first impressions you are always right, even when your wrong." He finishes with a huge grin while I began to defend my case, "Sorry, but if the bump wasn't so, I don't know forceful. But maybe if the bump never happened then the books wouldn't have fell." I stare at him with an intelligent smirk, "Oh really," he says in response. Then I explained current events as simple as possible, " See, you probably weren't going to apologize, from observing your first impressions, so the least you could have done was pick up my books for me. After all you wouldn't just be kind but you could've saved the last bit of dignity you have as a gentleman." As I ended my miniature monologue, Luke breaks the silence by pulling me away as the first bell rings.
My first class was an acting class taught by Mr. Sikowitz. I was one of the first people there and was able to sit near the back of the classroom, then when the second bell rang Mr. Sikowitz appeared. He began discussing the class theme for this week, "This week its going to be all about improvisation. Now can any one tell me what is improvisation means.... Any one.... Not all at once..... Alright I will choose. Lets see,". He looks around the room looking for someone to give him the answer and then when I thought this was going to be easy I stand corrected. "Elizabeth, what does improvisation means?" Everybody turns to the back of the classroom to see if I was either going to A) pick a fight B) speak my answer or C) not say anything at all. Being the total optimist I go ahead and explain, "Improvisation is when a cast is given a topic and line to start with and act out the scene using their own lines or whatever comes off the top of their heads." Mr. Sikowitz continues by saying how I was right and how they were going to play different scenes each day using improvisation. I was just praying to myself hoping that I won't have to participate.
" Now our first cast that is going to show us improvisation is going to take place at an ordinary household with a typical family. Leo will be the father, Laura as the youngest daughter, Ross as the older brother, Olivia as the oldest daughter and Elizabeth will be the mother." I looked at Mr. Sikowitz with a guarantee no. "Sorry but no thanks", I plead. Olivia quickly turned to Sikowitz to see if he will offer her the spot of the mother, but Sikowitz had another plan, "Ms. Taylor I was not asking if you wanted to play the mother I was telling. Now I want you to come up and so me what you got."
With sarcasm I walked up with arms folded and stood on the stage waiting for directions. "Alright, Leo you were just coming home after work and you are hungry and tired. While Elizabeth is almost done cooking dinner and Olivia you want to go out to a party and Ross you want to go to a concert with your friends while Laura, you are studying for an important test coming up. ACTION!"
Olivia: Mom can I go to a party with Jenny and April?
Ross: Yea and can I go to a concert with my friends?
Me: Nope tonight you are going nowhere, Ross you know you are grounded and Olivia you have chores you haven't finished around here.
Leo: Honey I'm home!
Olivia: Dad can I go to a party tonight?
Ross: And can I go to a concert?
Leo: What did your mother say?
Olivia and Ross shook their heads side to side indicating no.
Leo: Then I respect your mother's decision.
Me: Well isn't that a first.
Leo: Honey lets not go over this again tonight.
Me: Laura can you set up the table?
Now all cast is pretending to sit at a dinner table eating.
Leo: Dinner is delicious honey.
Me: Thank you.
Leo plants a sweet kiss on my cheek, Olivia is now furious.
Olivia: Well I think it needed some more gravy, it's a bit dry.
Me: I thought I did make gravy.
Olivia: There wasn't enough, maybe you should have added some more water. [She grabs a water bottle and poors it on top of my head.]
I looked at her in the eyes and left the room. Meanwhile Ross and Laura were trying to understand why she did that. Leo was fed up with Olivia's adittude and left the classroom trying to find me. But when he did see me I was already walkig out the front doors of the school.
When I left school I walked back to my aunt's house, changed my clothes and went out into the city with my camera. I was taking pictures for the rest of the afternoon and when I arrived at the beach I began to setup a station to take a few more photos. Until a surfer came up to me and when I realized who I was, my life went from ok to back down to kill me please. Never in my life did I ever want to see Leo again, but I guess living in his city I would have to see him almost everyday.
