Marcel was there with the famous purple tunic. It is said that this tenuous was blessed by the gods themselves. Diamond crystals at the chest and cowries around the hips. It seems simple but shows a degree of superiority in both men and spirits. Hence the diamonds and amulets. He had to consult the gods to know who was worthy to accompany the king. After consulting with the gods, Marcel was ready to designate.
The ritual requires that the potential accompanists be sent one by one before the supreme.
He nods three times to designate the person in front of him as an accompanist and twice to refuse it. The ritual began. One of the volunteers among the captives had the supreme taken before him. The supreme said a prayer and nodded three times. You could see the joy on the man's face. While the public feasted and celebrated this designation, the next one was taken away. She was a woman of about 25 years old. She was all tense and prayed to the gods to avoid this death. Sweat mistaken for tears dripped down her face. She hoped that the supreme will stop nodding his head after the first two times, but Marcel had indeed nodded 3 times. There are therefore 2 places for 5 people. While the 3rd captive was escorted in front of the supreme, the ritual festival continued, the noise was very strong, we were close to the commotion. The sound of drums, horns and balafons resounded throughout the public square. The crowd was dancing to the music! The show was total. Facing the 3rd captive and 4th captive, Marcel nodded twice. So, there were 3 captives left and only one person could survive. Jadik had lost all hope, his chances of survival were too slim.
In the crowd, his son was praying and sweating profusely and could be seen mumbling the prayers on his lips. He had been trying to sneak forward since the beginning of the ceremony and he had finally succeeded with 3 captives left. Morak watched his friend sneak in and followed the scene from his rock. He still couldn't realize and also prayed that Garuk's father would not be named.
So, he decided to join Morak at the front of the stage. He did it more easily with the help of the servant.
And the 2nd volunteer was brought up among the captives. He was one of Demek's former guards. He had a smile on his face and prayed aloud! He shouted that he wanted to join Demek and serve him even after death. A little silence was made to observe the decision of the supreme. The tamtams had stopped the hubbub had diminished. Marcel finished his prayer and looked the captive in the eye. He nodded first and then last. The din resumed more beautifully. One would even forget that this decision had just condemned Jadik. It was done the last 2 designated were known but to respect the procedure, Jadik was made to mount in front of Marcel. Jadik didn't even follow his designation. He had his head down but did not cry until he came back down and saw Garuk facing him. Suddenly, his eyes filled with tears. He let himself fall; he did not want to advance the guards wanted to drag him into the cart but he resisted. He was fighting his last battle before the eyes of his son. He begged one of the spirits to let him say his last words to his son. The spirit refused, but Marcel acceded to Jadik's last request. In tears, he tried to reassure his son:
- My son, come there (hugged him tightly to his chest, he wiped Garuk's tears)
- Dad I'm sorry (he said to her, chattering)
- You have done nothing my son, it is the choice of the gods! Be content to live, that I did not die for nothing. Screw!
Jadik's time seemed to have run out. The spirits escorted him to the cart and that was the last time Garuk saw his father. When he turned his head to the right, he saw Morak. The future king was no longer a friend in his eyes, but he was one of the reasons why his father died today. He picked up the first thing nearby and threw it towards Morak. "I'm going to kill you!" he yelled. "It's all your fault, you and your family! Were you obliged to take my father from me!You already have everything. I'm going to kill you! The people grabbed him to prevent him from reaching the prince and the servant stood in front as a shield. Morak was speechless and this time he was escorted with his sister to the palace.
