It's just past ten at night, and a young blonde-haired girl named Chelse is getting ready to watch a scary movie. Her boyfriend River had seen the new movie on the shelves and told her to pick it up after work. He plans to come over the second he gets off work, which is in an hour.
Chelse is cleaning up her living room and making sure the movie is ready to be played when the phone starts ringing. Tilting her head, she wonders who could possibly be calling her this late at night. Thinking it's her boyfriend or parents, who are currently out on their own date night, she picks up the phone.
"Hello?" Chelse asks into the phone as she flicks a piece of lint off her cheetah print nightgown.
"Hello. Who am I talking to?" A deep robotic voice asks, and Chelse chuckles as she shakes her head. River is known to play various scary pranks on her, so this doesn't surprise her at all.
"Well, that depends. Who are you trying to talk to?" Chelse asks as she looks around at the windows with a giddy smile, looking for River. Little did she know that it wasn't River on the other line.
"Well, I had dialed this number looking for my friend. Are you my friend?" The voice asks, and Chelse shakes her head, not recognizing the voice.
"Nope, sorry. I think you have the wrong number." Chelse says as she makes her way back over to the small side table next to her couch. "Good luck finding your friend, though."
Chelse ends the conversation and lays the home phone down on the table. She starts to make her way to the kitchen to make popcorn for the movie when the phone starts ringing again. Groaning, she turns back around and picks the phone up.
"Hello?" Chelse asks into the phone, wondering who else would be calling her this late.
"Hi." The same deep robotic voice answers and Chelse rolls her eyes, a joking smile coming to her face. Normally, River would give up after she hangs up on him, but she's willing to go along for a little longer.
"I thought you were looking for your friend." Chelse says as she heads for the kitchen. She needed to have the popcorn ready for when her boyfriend would show up.
"I thought we could be friends." The voice responds as Chelse digs through her cabinets, finally finding the popcorn. She pulls one of the silver containers out, turning on the stove as she sets it on the heating up rings.
"Sorry, I don't normally just become friends with random people over the phone." Chelse says as she shakes the container, the cornels starting to pop. She moves the phone to her other ear in order to use her dominant hand for the popcorn.
"What's that sound?" The voice asks, and Chelse chuckles.
"I'm making popcorn. I'm about to watch a movie." Chelse explains to the stranger, and the voice chuckles.
"Really? What kind of movie?" The voice asks.
"Just some new scary movie." Chelse says as she turns to lean over her kitchen island, looking into her living room. She didn't even really read the cover, so she has no idea what the movie's about aside from it being scary.
"What kind of scary movie? Do you like scary movies?" The voice asks, and Chelse nods her head before realizing that whoever she's talking to can't see her.
"I do. I like all things scary." Chelse says with an embarrassed chuckle, wondering what the hell she's doing after just saying she doesn't talk to random people on the phone. "Hold for a second, I have to put the popcorn in a bowl." Chelse sets the phone down and turns back around to the popcorn tin. She takes it off the stove, turning the burner off, and places the popcorn into a bowl. "Okay, I'm back."
