Chapter 22: Death to The Kings

"Maxine! Shit, Stu! I didn't mean it! I got angry-FUCK!! I'm sorry, babe! I'm fucking sorry!" Billy starts crying as he looks at both of us, the knife shaking in his hands as he looks at what he's done. I'm a broken sobbing mess as I feel like I'm drowning and dying all over again in the cold, eternal darkness. I feel like I'm fucking dying. "Stu, the gun, quickly. We have to get you to a hospital, my favorite goofball. My loving babe..."

I sob as I watch Stu stumbles and wobbles as he turns to look at the counter, only for me to freeze as we both notice the gun is missing from where I had laid it down.

"Uh, uh, Houston, we have a problem!" Stu says, making Billy whip around to look at him. He runs over to see that the gun's missing as Stu keeps apologizing and talking about it, his voice weakening as he wobbles in place.

"Where the fuck is it?!" Billy asks, panickily before the gun is pointed at his face by none other than Gail Weathers. I don't even think about my well-being as I dart out the side door, forcing my body to work with me even if everything in me just wants to sink to the floor and die. I can barely see because of the tears in my eyes, but I refuse to let these boys get hurt any more than they already are.

"How about this ending? I, the reporter left for dead, come in to find the gun and stumble onto you two idiots. I kill you both and save the day." Gail says, making my heart race as I force my body to move faster, running at her as best I can.

"Wait Gail, there's three-"

"NO!" I scream, grabbing the gun and tackling her to the ground. We hit the ground hard, me screaming out because I land on my stab wound, which makes me momentarily lose my sense of everything as stars and pain swallow me whole.

I vaguely hear my name being shouted, but I can't focus on anything as the pain intensifies to the point that I don't think I could move even if I wanted to. I don't think I can even think by this point, my body shaking after everything that's happened throughout the night.

"...babygirl! Come on, stay with us, Maxine!" I hear Billy's voice cut through the haze, and my vison starts to come back as I find myself sitting on the floor in the kitchen, my back against the counter. I shake my head and groan as I look around.

"What happened?" I ask, my voice a bit croaky as I stare up at Billy and Stu, who is bleeding from his mouth, horrifying me in ways I didn't think I could be. This just makes me let out a sob, tears falling down my face at the sight. "No, no, no, no...I can't lose you Stu. I can't lose either of you. You guys keep me stable, keep me sane, keep me alive."

"Hey, hey, hey." Billy says as he moves Stu to sit next to me, making sure we're as comfortable as we can be. "No one is losing anyone. We're going to survive this, and we're going to make it out. I promise."

The phone starts to ring, making us all look up at it, and that's when I realize that Sidney and her father are both gone. Shit, that's definitely not good at all. Billy answers the phone, cursing up a storm a second later as he demands to know where the fuck Sidney ran off to.

"FUCK! Bitch called the fucking police!" Billy screams before throwing a chair across the room, then he grabs the phone again. I turn to look at Stu, grabbing his face so he can look at me. Sobbing, I rub his cheeks as I lean up and kiss him with everything I have, making him cry as he gives me a passion filled kiss.

"I love you, Stuart Macher. I love you so much it hurts me to see you like this." I cry as I hold his face gently in my hands. He gives me a bloody, goofy smile though it doesn't reach his eyes.

"I love you, Maxine Harper. I love you so much that I plan to be with you forever and always. Eternity, dollface." He tells me, and it just makes me sob harder as I bring his head to my chest. I hold him to me tightly as he weakly wraps his arms around me, and I let out heartbreaking, gut-wrenching sobs as I feel myself die over and over. I feel like I'm being skinned alive until my soul being laid bare, and then my soul gets grinded up in a meat grinder.
