Jodi's awful day

Jodi was just washing the dishes when she heard a knocking on the door. She quickly dried her hands and went to open the door.

It was soldiers holding a dog tag with with Kent's name on it. Jodi immediately started tearing up and covered her mouth as she knew what was happening. Kent is gone.

After talking with the soldiers they gave her the dog tag and left. Jodi collapsed on the floor.

"I never should of let him join the army." She said through her tears. How is she gonna break the news to her kids?

She saw that it was almost time for Vincent to be home from school so she cleaned the tears of her face with a towel. The door opened.

"Bye Vincent, see you tomorrow!" Penny exclaimed as she dropped of Vincent.

He walked into the room and plopped down on the couch.

"How did school go sweetheart?" Jodi asked him in a cloudy voice.

"It was ok, pretty boring though," Vincent said with a pouty face.

"Do you want me to make you your favorite for dinner?" She asked him.

"Yes!" Vincent squealed.

Jodi started making the food while trying to hide her tears.

"Mom, Sam is home!" Vincent yelled.

"Well just it's time, dinners ready!" Jodi yelled out.

Sam and Vincent sat at the dinner table. Sam took one glance at his moms face and knew something was wrong. He tried guessing what was wrong. Did something happen to dad?

"Mom is everything ok?" Sam asked.

"Well honey," Jodi's face started filling with tears, "your dad is uh-"

"Dead," Sam interrupted her, "he's dead." Sam sighed and went into his room and locked the door.

"Wh-what?" Vincent stuttered.

Jodi went over and hugged Vincent trying to comfort him.

"It's ok honey," Jodi said holding Vincent tight, "it'll all be ok."

There was a knocking on the door. It was Emily and Haley. Jodi opened the door.

"Hello?" Jodi answered.

"Hi, we heard what happened and decided to bring over some cake." Emily told her.

"Well that's very kind of you," Jodi thanked them.

"Well we're didn't want to stay for long, just wanted to bring the cake," Emily told her, " we best be on our way."

Jodi waved goodbye to them as they walked back to their house.
