Indiana James POV:

I sat in my room for hours just silently complaining about this dinner. I did not want to go. I kept thinking of various ways to get out of it.
Fake sick? No. Too predictable. Family death? Nah, too pitiful. Injury? Coach might find out and pull me. There was no way out of this. I just had to deal with it. Unfortunately. I eventually got up and went to pick an outfit. What do I even wear to a thing like this?

I looked through my closet and picked a white, long sleeves shirt, a red-ish skirt, and my black boots. I put it on and walked over to the mirror. I stared at myself, didn't know what to think. I decided to just go with it, and went to deal with my hair. I hated my hair. I could never get it to look right. I could just straighten it...no. Curl it? Maybe. Honestly, I don't know why I cared so much, but I did. I had decided to just straighten it, then blow dry it for some volume.

I glanced at the clock. 6:15. I had to be there by 7:00. Time was ticking, and I was freaking. I was so nervous. I was trying to distract myself by doing makeup, but I was so stressed that I kept messing up. I wiped my entire face clean and started over. I grabbed my mascara, lipgloss, and blush and just did that. Then I grabbed some small hoop earrings and put them on. I took one final look at myself in the mirror.

"I guess this is good enough." I grabbed my keys and jacket and began to walk over to Guys house. I underestimated how cold it would be. Only 30 seconds in and I was shivering. It was snowing fairly hard.  Good thing he was only 5 minutes away. I walked while in trembled and my teeth chattered. I made my way up his drive way and to his door. I raised my gloved hand to knock, and I laid 3 gentle, but firm, knocks on this front door.

"Guy, could you answer that?" I heard his mother call out.

"Yeah. I guess." I looked down at my hands as I waited for him to open the door. In seconds the door swung open and I looked up, then chuckled.

"What?" He asked.

"Nothing. I've just never seen you in clothes like that." I teased. He was wearing blue jeans and an untucked button down shirt. "Did you just get back from a piano recital?"

"Did you just come from a church?" He shot back. I bit my lip.

"Are you gonna let me in?" I asked while shaking vigorously, you could quite literally hear my teeth chattering.

"Oh, right. Sorry." He opened the door wider and moved out of the way to let me in. I walked in and stomped my snow covered boots on the small rug infront of his door. He looked down at my shoes. "Did you walk here?"

"Well, yeah? My dads working, remember?" He just looked around. He walked to the kitchen and I followed him.

"Is that my Indiana?" Anna asked cheerfully.

"Hi, Ms.Germaine." She smiled warmly at me.

"Oh, honey. Please, call me Anna." I smiled at her and nodded. "I was just telling your dad last night how excited I was for you to come!"

"Well, I'm happy to be here. Thanks so much for having me." I said, trying to sound as sincere as possible.

"Dinner is almost ready. Why don't you kids go wait in the living room." She said while stirring the pot. We both, hesitantly, walked to the living room. We sat on opposite sides of the couch, not saying a word. I was waiting for him to break the silence. It was awkward, and surreal at the same time. It was odd to think that we, the kids who used to get in trouble for talking too much during church, could not hold a conversation like we used to. Everyone few seconds I could see him looking at me out of the corner of my eye, and each time I noticed I felt goosebumps up and down my body.

"Alright! Come eat!" We heard from the kitchen. We both stood up and walked to the dining room. It was a small table. Guy and I on opposite sides and Anna in between us at the head of the table. She placed the food infront of us. She had made Spaghetti for us. It was our favourite food.

"Thank you." I said when she placed the food infront of me. We ate in an awkward silence for about 10 seconds before Anna broke the ice.

"So, Indiana. How do you like playing with the ducks?" She asked. I could be honest and say 'I don't like it because a lot of the team, including your son, hate my guts.' But I didn't.

"Y'know, it's been really nice. Everyone has been nice so far." Although most of the team has been friendly, it's still very clear that they don't see me as a friend yet.

"Make any friends?" She asked.

"Uhm, not yet. I cant blame them, though. My old team was just really mean." I said.

"I'm sure they'll come around." I smiled at her. "You and that Adam Banks, anything going on there?" She asked while raising an eyebrow at me.

"Mom.." Guy said embarrassed.

"Heh, no. He's just my best friend. He's practically a brother to me." I said while letting out an airy laugh.

"Well you two are quite the players. So talented." She gawked.

"Oh, I don't know about that." I answered sheepishly. "He's really great, but I could never compare to Adam ." It was true. Adam was by far, the best player I had ever met. I mean, he was just so amazing. He was everything I wanted to be and more when it came to Hockey.
