Guy Germaine:
Adam and Indie walked into the locker room and the room fell silent."Hey, wasn't sure if you two would show up." Bombay said while putting a hand on each of their shoulders.
"Yeah, whatever." Adam said blandly.
"We just wanna play hockey." Indie chimed in quietly.
"Good. Ducks, you all know Adam Banks and Indiana James."
"On behalf of the Ducks, I'd like to say welcome-" he was cut off by the hot headed Jesse Hall. Charlie was always the peace keeper of the group. Never wanted to start any trouble and always stood neutral.
"Cake eaters!"
"I heard she punched out Carted McGill." I hear Peter whisper behind me, causing me to crack a smile.
"Ooh the Jess-man! Dissing the new guys. The jester!" Averman narrated.
"Shut up,Averman!" A rush of red hot anger washed over Jesse.
"It was just a joke." He said quietly.
"Putting on a ducks jersey doesn't make you real ducks." He remarked. Indie looked down at the ground. For the first time in all my years of knowing her, Indiana James was speechless.
Jesse stormed out of the locker room and the team followed.
"They're a good group when you get to know them." I heard Bombay tell them.
"Yeah I bet.." Indie said in the saddest tone I'd ever heard.
--
The team got out on the ice and the game began. And as much as the team hated them, everyone watched them in awe as they were our best players."Over here!" Banks called out. "I'm open."
Jesse refused to pass the puck to either Banks or Indie.
"Up front!" She called out. "Over here!"
She began to get flustered and upset.
"For the love of God, Jesse! Pass it already!" She yelled out. Jesses blatant disregard for her commands only added fuel to the fire in her eyes. Her face always got bright red when she was angry. That's how you could tell she was mad. She wouldn't always show it, but when her face got red, you just knew.
"Pass it to Banks!" Coach commanded.
"Come on! Do something with it!" Adam yelled out. Jesse gave up. He passed the puck to Adam and he scored. The team jumped up and cheered, except Jesse, he just skated away as mad as can be. Indie engulfed Adam in a hug and jumped up and down with him. The red on her face slowly drained leaving only her cheeks red, like they were naturally.
We huddled up with coach and he said what sounded like the worst possible plan ever.
"Goldberg, you're gonna sit this one out." My eyes widened. Why even attempt something so risky.
"You're pulling the goalie when we're tied?" Indie asked in disbelief.
"A tie isn't gonna help us. We need the win." He explained. "Fulton, you're our extra man. Everybody, get the puck to Fulton, that's your job."
"We pulling the Statue of Liberty play?"Fulton asked.
"No, take your shot. You may only get one, so it's gotta be good."
"But coach, one out of one." Fulton panicked.
"Soft hands, Fulton." I said "concentration. Not strength." I smiled then winked at Connie, the girl I've liked for the longest time. I saw Adam say something to Indie, causing her to roll her eyes.
"Shut up." She whispered. Hot headed. As usual. If Jesse didn't hate her so much, I could see them being friends.
We got back on the ice and the game resumed. We did what coach said and got the puck to Fulton. He stood there in shock.
"Shoot, Fulton!" I turned to the stands to see Indie cheer him on.
"Shoot! Shoot!" We all chanted. He shoots! He scored!! We had made the play offs! Everyone gathered together and hugged each other. For a split second Indie looks at me, and although I can see her fighting the urge, her lips tug slightly upwards and she smiled at me. She quickly turns away and jumps onto Adam and spins him around. Her green eyes gleaming, her laugh echoing throughout the rink.
"We made it, Adam! They didn't murder us like you thought they would!" She says to him.
"Hear that?" I said to Jesse with a grin. "They thought we were gonna murder them."
Jesse, for the first time that day, cracked a smile. "She's alright, I guess. Banks on the other hand."
"She'll keep him in line." I reassured.
"How can you be so sure, Germaine?" He asked.
"I just know. Trust me." I said to him.
"Ok, but if your wrong then I'm gonna murder you."
"Ok, I can live with that." I joked.
Sometimes I forget why me and Indie stopped talking. I guess it's might have been my fault , but she's really turned into a jerk. She never stopped her friends from being jerks either. It was hard to not hate eachother, because we did it so well. It' had been years since we've actually talked. And I don't mean our banter. Like, an actual conversation. Knowing what she turned into, she'd never be open to it anyway. To hell with her then. I didn't need her anyway. She was temporary, clearly. If she really cared about our friendship, she would have tried harder. She always fought for what she wanted and always got what she wanted so if she wanted me bad enough she would have tried. Atleast, that's what I tell myself.
