“Some things we don’t talk about. Rather do without and just hold the smile. Falling in and out of love. Ashamed and proud of, together all the while.” I played “Never Say Never” by The Fray in my room, the volume turned up all the way. I had cracked the single window in my room open just a slight bit, letting the heat soak in my room.

I had always loved and lived for summer, always despising the frosty air in the winter. Snow was pretty; each delicate, white flake falling from the sky and landing on your warm palms, but it was much too cold. I could handle the cold for the most part though, but once it melts into water, that’s when I hide indoors.

“Don’t let me go. Don’t let me go. Don’t let me go.” I never used to listen to this song, but that was before the arguments. The yelling, the tears, the hugs, the slaps, the ignoring…it really gets to me. I hate, and I mean absolutely hate, fighting with Harry, but he can be really stubborn and forgetful sometimes.

(Flashback: 3 days ago, 8:30PM)

“Harry?!” I’d left him 5 messages now. He had called me 4 hours ago saying that he wanted to meet up at the cinema. I thought it would be a fun idea. Seeing a sweet movie with him would bring us closer. We barely ever got to see each other these days because his boss kept giving him longer shifts at the bakery. By the time he was home, he said he was too tired to hang out.

We’d been dating for only 3 weeks and I thought everything would be great and magical…oh how the movies lie. I feel like he’s given up on us already.

I was shaken out of my thoughts when I heard my ringtone for him “You Found Me” by The Fray. He knew I adored the band, so he sang it to me a few days after we became “official”. The song was on the sad side, but it was still special to me.

“Emmy, I am so sorry! You have to believe me! I got so distracted because my mum wanted me to help-” “Save it, Harry. I’m sure whatever it was, was more important than me. I’ve been waiting for you here, but apparently it was a waste of time, like I knew it was going to be. I’m going home.” I hung up on him and called Zayn. My mum was out at a party with her friends now, so she couldn’t pick me up.

“Zayn, could you pick me up?” I asked as soon as he thankfully picked up. “Sure…did Harry…?” I sighed and gave a quiet “Yes”. I had been complaining to Zayn whenever Harry screwed up. I felt bad for venting to him, but he assured me that he was fine with it. He just wanted to be there for me…unlike my boyfriend…….

I forced myself not to think about that night again, and tried focusing on the music, but the song had ended. I went over to the stereo and replayed it, settling on my floor. I’d been checking my emails on my laptop for hours whilst lying on my floor.

There’s really nothing else to do today. I can’t go see Harry because we currently aren’t speaking to each other, Zayn is on vacation with his family, and my mum is at work. I haven’t seen my other friends from school since the school year ended, but I was never very close to them anyways. It had always been just Harry. Now I had no one.

I suddenly felt the need to use the restroom so I got up and walked over to the stereo again, pausing the song. Even though the music stopped playing, I still heard someone singing the song. “Hello?” I heard the person’s voice coming from outside of my window. My room was on the first floor, so my window led straight out to the ground. I cautiously opened the window wider, and looked out.

I looked left and no one was there, but to the right of me stood an unknown boy. He owned sandy brown hair, a few pieces of his straight hair were covering one his eyes. His other eye was uncovered, allowing me to look into his kind, light blue eyes. There was a smile playing on his lips as he stopped singing. He was actually good at singing though.

“Umm…what are you doing?” I asked, feeling a little awkward about this situation. “Well, you see, I was admiring your lovely home here and happened to hear your music playing.” I gave him a doubtful look and he grinned sheepishly.

“Alright, I was walking by and heard The Fray playing quite loudly. I couldn’t help myself. You have a great taste in music.” I blushed and confused myself. Why was a stranger making me blush? He was actually a little cute, but sadly, couldn’t compare to Harry. He seemed older too. I really do miss Harry even if he is immature.

“Thanks, you like The Fray?” Even though Harry had sung one of their songs to me, they didn’t particularly appeal to him. “Yes, very much so,” He grinned at me and stepped forward, offering his hand out for me to shake. I shook it, giving him a smile. “I’m Louis!” He said happily. “Emery, but most people call me Em.” “You’ve got a cool name, Em.” “Thanks!” He was actually very nice.

“So…I was going to use the restroom. I guess I’ll come outside afterwards.” He nodded and I quickly jogged to my bathroom. Harry, Zayn, now Louis. It was crazy how before, Harry had been the only boy I really talked to.

I guess this summer has some interesting plans in store for me.
