"Erm, hi, Emery," Oliver greeted.

I stared at him for what seemed like a while, and I could tell that he was feeling uncomfortable. "Are you having a nice Halloween?" He inquired nervously. I shrugged and Odessa knew how awkward this encounter was for the two of us, so she stepped in. "I didn't know that you had a sibling," she admitted, acknowledging the younger boy Oliver was with. "He's my cousin actually," Oliver corrected.

"Oh, how old is he?" "He'll be 9 years old tomorrow." Des smiled and replied with a quiet, "That's cool." I secretly wanted to tell him to go away, but of course, I wouldn't actually say that to him. I decided to wait patiently, no matter how difficult that task was. Des coughed and nodded towards the sidewalk behind Oliver. "Maybe you should continue on with your cousin. It's getting pretty late."

Oliver nodded and spun around quickly before completely disappearing into the darkness. "That was weird," Odessa noted. "Very; didn't he know that you live here?" "Probably, and I bet he guessed that you'd be here. I think he was just trying to creep around, and he used his little cousin as an excuse." "You're smart. You know that, right?"

"Pshh, I think everyone knows that, Em," she joked and laughter came from both of us.

********************************

"How long have we been out here?" I whined. "Why? Are you missing your lover?" Des winked and I playfully rolled my eyes whilst saying "no". "It's been an hour and a half, and not many trick-or-treaters have come around. Think we should just go in for the night?" "I'll feel bad if more show up, but this is making me quite knackered."

"We'll just leave the bowl out here and whoever comes can take whatever, as long as it's not the actual bowl because I'll have to hunt them down if they do that." I giggled at how dramatic she was and hurried along inside with her.

"Styles?!" I called out for him before actually searching through the house. I found him right where I left him; he was still playing pool, but only with Louis. Zayn was having a conversation with Harmony as they sat together on the floor in the corner of the room. At least he didn't seem afraid of her anymore. He'd finally relaxed and I was happy for him.

"Once the game is over, I think we ought to go home, Emmy," Harry told me. "Sounds good to me," I responded and went to sit with Liam. "Hey, Em. How are things with Harry?" I thought back to how things were at Megan's party, where I'd met Liam. Everything was so different now. "Great; much better than how they were at the party. What about you? Have you met anyone recently?"

"Nah, not really. There's a few girls I'm talking to, but I'm not interested in anything more than a friendship." "Hmm, is that good or bad?" Liam chuckled and answered, "Well, I mean I'm not lonely. I'm not looking to be in a relationship now. I'm okay on my own." "Good for you!" I gave him a high five and we laughed whilst Zayn joined us.

"So how was it out there?" Zayn asked curiously but with a teasing tone. He knew that it wasn't entirely a pleasant experience waiting out in the cold for trick-or-treaters who'd rarely shown. "You can go find out for yourself. The bowl is still out there," I joked. "That sounds rather-" "I think that is a lovely idea!" Harmony piped in. "I think it's much too chilly to be outside," Zayn calmly protested.

Harmony frowned but didn't say another word. "I win! I win! You're a loser. Poor Harry," Louis and Harry bantered back and forth until Harry gave up the fight and slumped over to me. "I was about to win until he cheated, Emmy." Harry's pink lips formed an adorable pout and Louis crossed his arms. "I won fair and square, even though that saying doesn't even make any sense to me."

"Oh, I know what it means! During the sixteenth century, the word 'square' meant 'honest and fair', thus the phrase 'fair and square' was created." All of us gawked at Liam after his unexpected remark. He was insanely intelligent, but that also made him seem a bit nerdy.

"Well damn. Do you read history books for a bit of 'light' reading before you sleep at night?" Louis was amazed and Liam shrugged. "I just go online and look up random, strange facts when I'm bored." Oh, Liam. What a character. "Who doesn't though?" Harry giggled at Louis' sarcasm and I tried hiding a smile.

"I think I'm going to leave now," Liam informed us abruptly. "Oh, no. I was only joking, mate. I didn't mean to offend you," Louis apologized but Liam just grinned. "Nah, it's cool. I actually just wanna sleep now. I'm exhausted." "Me too," I agreed.

"It was nice to see you all. Thank you for inviting me." Liam waved to everyone and headed towards the front door, and I hurried after him. "Call me if you're free. Harry and I are going to hang with Zayn, and it'd be awesome if you could come along too." Liam smiled and gave a single nod before saying, "Sounds cool. I'll call ya." And with that, he was gone.

"I'm gonna get going too. I'll text you tomorrow morning, Em." "Alrighty, have a good sleep." I pulled him in for a hug and he squeezed me tightly for a long moment, but not so long that it'd be questioned. When he let go, his lips hovered near my ear and he whispered, "I wish I could kiss your cheek." I stared at him and didn't know how to answer, but I wanted to smile when I saw his cheeks were a light pink as he blushed.

Harry came up from behind me and told Zayn what sounded like an unfriendly "goodbye" as Zayn stepped out the door. "Can you guys stay longer?" Odessa quickly asked. I glanced at Harry and he shrugged. "It's 11:45," Harmony informed us, answering the question that had been on my mind. "We have to be back by 1AM if we have a ride." "I can give you one," Harmony offered. "Thanks," Harry told her.

"Styles, call your mum." He pulled out his cell phone and just handed it over to me. "Um..." "She gets crabby when it's late, and I figured that if she talked to you, she'd be less annoyed." I laughed at how right he was and dialed Anne's number. "Harry?" "Nope, it's Em. Harmony is going to give us a ride home." "Okay, I'll keep the kitchen light on for you two so you don't have to stumble through the dark."

I giggled whilst picturing Harry falling right when he entered and thanked her. She hung up and I let Harry know that we wouldn't have to struggle our way through the dark. As I spoke those words, I had a completely random thought like always, so of course, I told Harry. "Through The Dark. That would be a good song name, y'know."

He rolled his eyes and chuckled, "Through The Dark? What would the lyrics be? Something dumb probably." "Okay, go ahead and think of something then." "What? Right now?" "Yes, right now." He thought to himself and then grinned, "When the night is coming down on you, we will find a way through the dark." I was laughing at the moment, but I stopped immediately.

"How are you so amazing at writing songs?!" He burst out laughing and shook his head, "Seriously? Those lyrics weren't even that great." "You should remember those and then when you're famous, you'll get crazy rich from that song." "Don't doubt it, Harry. Em has psychic powers," Des warned jokingly.

"Wanna watch a scary film?" Harmony asked out of nowhere. "We don't have much time for that." "Sure you do! We could watch a short one." "Yeah! Come on, Emmy!" Harry got all excited and followed Harmony into another room. "They're strange," Des commented. "That would be an understatement," I replied.
