"so hows school?" xander asks on the phone
"its actually not that bad" devin shrugs
"made friends?"
"yea a few they're fun"
"well i'll talk to you later,mr banner is taking our class today cant be late"
"oh no,not him"
they both giggle before saying good byes

devin hated her household,her mom has bpd,she tried to kick her out all the time,dad died when she was 10.
when her dad got into the accident,devin had lost hope for a good life.
her dad was everything to her,before he died her mom loved her too.
but now she's walking to class remembering all the good times with her parents and they aren't even in the same city

devin sits beside nick on the lunch table slurping her orange juice thoughts still stuck on her family and xander back home.
"DEVIN" chris shouts
"what good lord you scared me"
"waffles pancakes or french toast"
"oh pancakes for sure,chocolate chips even" devin says chef kissing
"are you just agreeing with matt?" nick asks
matt smirks in her direction
"me? no? i didnt even hear his answer"
"whatever dude i can't trust you now" chris says flipping me off
"you guys just haven't had good pancakes" matt says
"WE LITERALLY EAT AT THE SAME PLACES" chris shouts
"yall just dont know how to appreciate a good pancake" devin joins in
"this is new oh my god" nick chuckles in disbelief
"what is?" matt says
"you guys actually agreeing and making conversation" alahna clears the point
devin just shrugs
"anyways ive got human resources next" devin stands up
"me too" matt shoots up from his seat
"oooooo" nick makes a noise
devin makes a face back at him

matt and devin walk to the class together...sorta
theyre like 2 feet apart
matt really wants to make conversation.
he thinks devins annoying with the way she barely speaks sometimes,or the way she'd put her head down at every given chance
but he wants to be the one who she talks too.
"you like human resources?"
"what do you want" she walks looking straight ahead
"just asking,because i am ass at this subject"
as he finished his sentence they enter the class
sitting next to each other.

"so partner up everyone,this paper is going to be based on your theory writings more so focus on your research work" the teacher announces

devin sighs before looking to her side
she finds matt already looking at her with a smug smile on his face
"guess you dont have a choice" he says

"so you're telling me you guys are partnered up?" nate asks while all of them walk to the cars
"not a big deal,i'll do all the research and you'll write it"
"why do i have to write it?" matt makes a face
"because i'll do the research better?"
matt lets her have that one and goes up to the driver seat
"okay bye guys" devin says going up to her car
"dev you should come over,you guys could work on your paper too" chris suggests
"no way im starting it today,i cant sit with her for longer than an hour a day" matt points
"yea that and im tired so" she shrugs getting in her car

she watches them leave,and sighs
today is been a hard day for her mentally.
when she woke up she saw a few texts from her mom which left her questioning things.
and she hated how her mom still had power over her mind.
her mom ruined herself and devin.
she couldn't let that happen again.
not when things are finally turning around.

she switches her phone off and takes a last drag of her cigarette before throwing it out the window

"thanks nans" devin smiles taking a bite of the toastie in front of her
