"we should all go bowling tomorrow" chris says munching on some fries
"OH MINI GOLF" nate yells
"i don't know how to play golf" devin says sitting back on her seat
"dont worry one of us will teach you" chris says assuringly
"oh! which reminds me,my friend xander is in the city for the week,mind if he joins?"
"oh yea we heard,of course not i think we'll all like him" nick speaks
"he's great" devin smiles to which the entire group is goes silent
devin is their friend,but they're still not sure if she totally likes anyone of them
hearing her like this is different for all of them
"whatever,we've got to finish our paper remember?" matt breaks the silence
matt honestly couldn't give two fucks about the paper.
but it seems like thats the only time he gets with devin.
"what if everyone comes around to our house before we leave for mini golfing,that way you guys can finish your paper too" nick suggests
"i dont care,as long as im getting this shit over with" devin say walking off of the table
"she's all over that xander guy" matt says to the group
"what do you mean?" alahna asks
"she clearly likes him,i picked him up for her and they were all over each other"
"kid you're overreacting" chris says chuckling
"yea matt and what if she does,im sure he's a good guy" nick says
"whatever i dont give a fuck anyway" matt says leaving for his class

"HEEEY DEV" nick says hugging devin as xander and her enter their house.
"guys this is xander,xander-nick,chris,alahna,nate and you've already met matt there" devin says pointing at matt who was sat on the couch whilst everybody got up to meet xander
it was very obvious that he wasn't interested
they all chit chat and get to know xander sitting on the kitchen counter.

"dev,we still have that paper to finish remember?" matt says finally getting up from the couch
"it can wait" devin shrugs but was also taken aback by matt calling her "dev" for the first time
matts reaction to the shrugging was simply getting a hold of devins hand and saying
"no it can't" before taking her away from the group with him to his room
devin had no time to react to that till they were in his room
"what was that?" devin loses her hand from his grip
"what? i wasn't going to beg you to come finish the paper with me? unlike you i actually wanna pass this year" matt yells
"you know what matt? do this shit on your own i dont want to be around you" devin says turning to leave
"are you gonna go cry about it to "xander" ?" matt says knowing that he's going regret the entirety of this conversation because the words coming out of his mouth were clearly not him.
but devin wouldn't know.
and thats the fucked up part.
matts face dropped as she turns looking pissed off.
like really,really pissed off.
"back off matt,okay?" she grinds her teeth trying to control her emotions
"that xander guy,yeah i know you like him atleast i've seen it"
"i dont have to give YOU out of all people any explanations" with that devin busts out of his room.
leaving matt alone.
with his thoughts

"is matt not coming?" alahna asks as theyre all finally leaving to go out after hanging around for 2 hours
"i don't think so,he gets like this sometimes and its hard to talk to him then" nick says
devin sighs,she didn't wanna ruin the day for matt.
but she feels like she did.
"i'll go talk to him" devin says walking upstairs to his room

devin knocks before she enters
"go away chris im not coming"
"its me"
matt turns around on his bed,now facing devin
"what?"
"god i just wanted to ask if you wanted to join"
"no clearly i dont,im not feeling so good"
"really? because same" devin goes and sits on the bed
matt just stares at her,trying to read.
"wanna ditch them and work on our paper?" devin asks hopefully making the guy in front feel a little better.
there was a pause.
matt just looks at her
"yea,sure" he nods

"guys matt and i are gonna work on our paper,we realised how important it is and we need to finish it today"devin announces
"not you too" nate yells
"we've got xander now so fuck you both" chris flips her off to which devin just laughs and goes back up to matts room
"well theyre really mad" devin says chuckling to which matt smiles
"they'll get over it" he replies

its been an hour or so since they started their research work and writing,working in comfortable silence
"devin"
"yea?"
"i'm sorry"
devin just shrugs before getting back to writing
"i'm sorry,i shouldn't have said any of that i dont know what got into me"
"matt its okay,if you haven't gotten the idea still,i don't expect alot from you"
matt heard his heart break a little
"i never intended it to be like that" matt replies
devin giggles at that
"what?" he asks curious of where that giggle stands
"nothing,just that you've been a bitch to me for what? 2 months and now you're saying you didn't intend on that?"
"no-"
"matt,its okay,can i just take a smoke real quick?"
matt nods looking at her
"and for the record i don't like xander,i dont know where you got that from" devin chuckles inhaling smoke into her lungs
matt smiles.
