"i miss xander" nate says chewing on some sour patch kids on the table
"told you guys you'd like him" devin acts proud
"he wasn't all that" matt says looking up from his phone
"yeah okay buddy" chris lets out a fake giggle
"what are we even talking about,lets talk about the real thing that matters" alahna smirks and looks in matts direction
matt looks up from his phone to see the entire table waiting for him
"what?" he deadpans
"whats going on with you and chloe?" alahna smiles
"OHHHH ive heard somethings too" nick yells using his entire body language to say that sentence
"what things?" matt asks
"that you and her are "talking"" chris uses air quotes
"and?" matt still acts oblivious
"i've got math,see you guys" devin gets up and rushes away from them

she had heard those rumours.
alot of them actually.
it had been what? a week since devin was over at the sturniolos.
and matt was on her mind since then.
she didnt like this.
she didnt like thinking about him so much.
it irritated her.
was he manifesting her in some way?
she doesn't know.
but what she does know is that she needs a smoke.
right now.

she goes behind the bleachers again.
it had been a while since she'd been here.
with her having to sit with everyone on the table,she quite literally forgot about it.
she loves chris,nick,nate and alahna.
they've become a major part of her life now.
and she likes it that way.
she looks up from the grassy ground and was taken aback by matt
"hi" she says
"hey" he sits beside her
"whats up?" she asks
"nothing,i just wanted some time alone if you dont mind"
"i do mind actually,i came here first"
"devin please ive had a long day,i can't do this right now"
"ive had a pretty shit day too actually so do you mind" devin signals him to leave
"fuck off" matt says in a lousy tone before getting up to leave
"unless you dont mind sitting here with me" devin stops him
matt looks behind at her and sighs before taking back his seat
"you're weird" he says
"how and why"
"you just are"
"okay"
"okay? you're not gonna argue with me?" matt asks looking at her
"no" devin shrugs
"thats whats weird"
"why?"
"i like arguing with you" matt says in a serious tone
"i would like to fulfil your needs but im too drained" devin says taking a drag
"me too" matt sighs
"wow you're really drained today" devin lets out a laugh
"yea i guess"
"is it the rumours?"
"yea and..."
devin waits for him to complete his sentence but he never does
"skipping math?" he looks at her
devin smiles in agreement
matt gets up and gives his hand out for devin to cling onto it to get up
"lets skip school" matt says
"ive never liked you better" devin giggles

matt and devin walked to matts van giggling about something or the other
they both had something on their minds that they needed to get off.
those rumours,about matt and chloe were true.
matt hung out with her earlier in the week,but he didnt like it when people in the school talked about him or his affairs.

he needed to get out,did it have to be with devin? no. but he'll take it.

as for devin,her mom has been leaving messages here and there,which usually does it for her.

"come on it cant be that bad" devin said to matt sitting in the passenger as drives them to...well they dont know

"it was,justin my older brother was practicing golf in the living room and flew the put right in my head" matt explains

"that does sound bad,oh my god"

"it was,i hit my head pretty hard. didnt die though"

"ive never been near death"

"i was a dumb kid i hit myself all the time" matt giggles

"you still are a dumb kid"

"i scored better than you on that math quiz" matt shrugs

"yea by one mark" devin laughs

they talk like this till they reach the neaarest chick fil a which isnt so near.
"that sounds terrible oh my god" devin says putting a fry in her mouth
"how many times have you almost died oh my god." devin reacts to matts stories
"well not too many but still too many"
she chuckles at his answer

she looks at peace.
and for some reason,after having a shit of a day at school. he felt at peace too.
