Months ago, Lucien Yastov would've been wandering the streets at this time, either dressed in silks raking in customers for Tante Heleen, or gathering dirty secrets whispered in the low light of the barrel. Instead of that, however, she was sat in front of Kaz Brekker and his gang of crows, Jesper's lanky arm draped across her shoulder, feet propped up on the table, pulling at a loose curl that had fallen from the rather intricate updo Lucien had spent an hour on this morning.
"Here's what I don't get-"
"We're going to be here all night," Inej stated, her smirk laced with amusement. Lucien's smile grew at the joke as Jesper's face dropped and he looked between the two smiling girls, "Rude."
Shifting upright, his feet falling from the table, he throws his arms around barely missing Lucien's face with his bony elbows, "Why haven't they tried going under it? Just dig a tunnel."
Kaz glanced at the man to his left shaking his head, "Tried that. More than a century ago." His leather-clad hands grasped the cane tighter, "Something...heard them digging."
Lucien shuddered at the thought. Darkness was certainly not her strong suit, and with those creepy monsters roaming about within the shadows she thinks she would take a page out of Inej's book and start praying to whatever saint would listen.
Jesper sits back, shifting his weight back onto Lucien, "It was made hundreds of years ago by that crazy Grisha-"
Lucien's soft voice cuts him off, "The Black Heretic, you mean." Jesper shoots her a questioning look before nodding, "Yeah, him. The one who controls shadows. They've got one in their army now."
Lucien's brows furrow in confusion as she looks at Kaz, who also seems confused about where the Zemini man is going.
"General Kirigan." Jesper snaps, no doubt just remembering the man's name.
Inej raises a brow at him, still lost in terms of this conversation, "Your point?"
Jesper rolls his eyes as if this was the easiest thing to understand, "If one of his kind made it, can't he unmake it?"
The other three people at the table, sleep-deprived and confused, all deadpanned at Jesper's statement before Inej broke the silence. "Have you ever tried to put out fire by adding more fire?" The sass in her tone is undeniable. Lucien snickers to herself as she watches the realization register on Jesper's face.
He mulls over the statement before perking up again, eyes squinting like a child trying to prove someone wrong, "Then what's the opposite?"
"A Sun Summoner."
Kaz's whiskey gaze snaps to Inej at her statement, and Lucien can feel the unspoken tension between the two that Jesper either ignores or doesn't notice.
"Right, then, one of those," Jesper says slumping over Lucien's lax form once again. Her manicured hands come to push Jesper's weight off her shoulders. "Alright, enough," she hisses with no real ill intent.
