Lucien's gown fluttered around her feet as Inej dragged her toward Kaz's office, "He's being ridiculous. We have until sunrise to find a way across the fold?! Is he mental?" Inej continues to rant to Lucien about her worries about this mission. "Did he even consider the thought that we couldn't leave?!"
Lucien only nodded her head to appeal to the shorter Suli girl, knowing that her words would bring nothing to soothe her. However, she did agree with most of what Inej was saying. It seemed as though Kaz had forgotten two of his most valuable assets were still under lock and key of Tantee Helleen. "Saints knows what he would have to give up for us to leave Ketterdam without her supervision," Lucien responded with a slight shake of her head.
"Exactly," Inej stated as she pushed open the door which led to Kaz's office. Kaz, as always, was neck-deep in papers and documents, scrambling around for saints knows what.
Inej was the first to speak, "What was that? Hmm? Want to tell me?" Kaz barely glanced up at the wraith as she stood, fuming, in front of his desk. "Be more specific," he replied.
She clenched her jaw and took a breath to steady herself, "It was one thing when we had a week to find a way across the fold. But sunrise?" she leaned closer, "We have to say no."
"No."
Inej's eyes narrowed as she responded, "That's a 'no' to the job then?" Kaz stopped his rummaging to look the dark-haired girl in her eyes, "That's a 'no' to saying 'no'."
"We can't go!"
"Can't we?"
Inej's menagerie tattoo was suddenly on display along with Lucien's, who hadn't said a single word the whole time. "We can't go, Kaz," she spoke the exact words Inej had, only with a softer tone. At Lucien's words, Inej gave a small smile towards the blonde before directing her fiery glare at Kaz, with a look that said, 'Exactly.'
Kaz glared at the women in front of him before directing his gaze back to his work, "You will go. Both of you. I have a plan."
Inej's eyes closed as she sighed exasperatedly, "No you don't." Lucien's eyes cut over to Inej before they returned to tracking Kaz as he combed through the piles situated on his desk.
"Inej!" he exclaimed
"I've worked for you long enough to know when you're still figuring things out, and you don't know how to pull off this job," Inej stated.
Kaz glowered at Inej, " I still have six hours-" his glare let up slightly as he looked toward Lucien, who was looking at him with her eyes that reminded him of the water—reminded him of that night and that feeling. And reminded him of the aftermath. And the reason he had for doing all of this. "-and right now, neither of you are helping."
Inej rolled her eyes as she ranted on. "Maybe you crack up a way across, but that- that doesn't solve this problem, now does it!?" she threw her wrist in Kaz's direction once more while she yelled.
