Kaz Brekker walked with his murder of crows flocking behind him and frolicking around.
"Quiet." His voice, alongside the slam of his cane, silenced even the chattiest of the crew behind him. "Is everyone clear with the plan before we get any closer?"
Lucien raised her hand with a roll of her eyes, "Yes, um, I understand but why get a heartrender when I can do the job just fine on my own?" she questioned sassily.
"In case you can't" was the only reply she received.
Kaz smirked lazily, raising a single brow as if questioning if she would be so bold to sass him. When she didn't respond to his little snide comment, his smirk widened, "come along now"
The blonde heartrender spoke up as the group continued on their path. "I really appreciate the business, but you've only paid for an hour of my time-." Lucien smiles and elbows Inej and Jesper on her sides respectively, "At least she's getting paid, what do we get besides a nod of, what may be, approval." Jesper tries to disguise his laugh as a cough while Inej giggles softly, "I get a nice eyebrow raise every once in a while."
"-then I have to be back at the Orchid." Kaz barely acknowledges the girl as he responds, "The Orchid isn't safe tonight. Your life's in danger with this job. Make yourself scarce for a few days afterward."
The girl's face screws up in frustration and confusion," Is that a threat, Mr. Brekker? Really?"
"Even if I'm nice, my boss will call stadwatch on you," she continues.
Kaz, who had seemingly had enough of the girls blabbering, turns towards her harshly, "It's not me you're in danger with. It's Pekka Rollins."
Even though Lucien had only been with the crows a few months, she had picked up on Kaz's immense hatred for Pekka Rollins, It wasn't like she could blame him, Pekka was the definition of a terrible person (much like most in the barrel, but Pekka a little more than others.)
"I'll have my boss get the stadwatch on him as well."
Lucien giggled a little at that before Kaz's usual glare and Inej's sharp pinch on her arm shut her up. "Sorry," she muttered to the dark-haired woman girl beside her.
"Which is why your boss is already dead."
The group continued down the path until a guard at the gate entered their field of vision. "Go time," Jesper leaned over to whisper to Lucien. She smiled as the familiar rush of adrenaline flowed through her veins.
"Who're you lot?" the man questioned as he walked towards the group of five.
Kaz, ever the leader, walks closer to the fence and the man behind it, " We're here to see Dreesan."
Lucien groaned into her hands, "Why does Kaz never tell me these things." Inej shot her a sideways glance as Jesper leaned in closer, "Why are you groaning, do you know Dreesan?"
