The nurse who accompanied Dinah to the treatment room said nothing, the mood sombre as usual. Barely any of them spoke - as though they too were being held against their will. The only one who had, had been the one to take her to the library, and even then she had spoken to Dinah as though she were a mere child. Almost patronising.
Knocking on the door, the nurse opened it, Dinah seeing that no one was in there. Yet.
"Will you be staying throughout the treatment?" Dinah asked.
"Only if the doctor wishes it or needs me to assist". Came the short reply. To her, Dinah was just another mad woman trying to look sane. "Lie on the bed, I suppose he'll be needing you strapped down - can't have you running the hall, or they'll take you to the red room". The look was one of warning.
Dinah walked to the hospital bed and lay down. The nurse then securing restraints to her wrists and ankles. Only now did she begin to feel the nausea rise, the panic. Flashbacks of the doctors trying to restrain her in this exact way and feeding her medicines when John had her brought to then. Her body began to shake out of the fear and the memory.
"Calm yourself Mrs Walker, it will do you no favours if you become hysterical". The nurse sighed as though she had given the same speech before to the other women committed for the same ailment.
"Nurse. What is going on?" Doctor Rogers voice cut through the air as Dinah tried hard to calm herself from the apparent panic attack she was having.
The nurse turned to him. "You need her restrained if she is to receive treatment- not just for your safety but for her own too".
Steve pushed past her and quickly undid the restraints that held Sinah to the bed, sitting her up quickly and then trying to calm her. "Mrs Walker, focus, look at me...focus on me". He told her calmly.
Dinah heard his voice, however his face did not reveal itself through the clouded vision that was currently inflicting her eyes until she began to calm at his words, then seeing him looking at her.
"That's it, calm down, everything is ok, you're fine". He said, managing to coax her out of the state she was in. Glancing towards the nurse, he glared. "You do not make decisions without me, including whether or not restraints will used. You wait until I'm present!"
He was angry. Dinah could see it in his face,
He did not want her restrained...
"Leave". He spat to the nurse. "And be thankful I'm not calling Ross to see that you are removed from your position here".
The nurse nodded silently, realising her mistake and how much it could cost her. "Yes Doctor, sorry doctor". Then she hurried from the room.
Steve got up and walked to the door, locking it before turning to Dinah. "I'm sorry, I can see you're scared".
She nodded. "The restraints - they used them to hold me down when they had me brought here, while they assessed me, fed medicines to me so that I didn't even know where I was". Her hands shook now as he came to sit by her. Tears slowly sliding down her face. "I'm not mad, I'm not..."
Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, he passed it to her so she could dry her eyes. "The method of treatment I want to try? There are no medicines involved, no restraints unless you say otherwise. But you need to trust me Mrs Walker".
"Call me Dinah. Please, I hate that I am still referred to as married when I am anything but that. John clearly doesn't see me as his wife anymore".
He nodded. "Ok then, Dinah". Rolling the name on his tongue. "Do you trust me?"
"I trust no one here because they neither trust me, or believe me".
"A fair answer". He replied, "but I need you to - now, lie down. I won't restrain you, but you need to trust me on this".
She hesitantly lay back down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Trust. She had to trust him with whatever he about to do next.
Steve slowly pushed the skirts of her dress up her legs until they pooled around her waist, exposing her to him. Her breath hitched slightly as she felt a new kind of vulnerability take over, but instead she kept calm, now feeling his fingers trace the inside of her thigh.
"Do I have your permission to continue?" He asked in a way that made her now not only made her feel safe and secure (which was hard to be here), but also one of slight excitement.
"Yes".
Slowly, two of his fingers began to brush up between her legs until they stopped at her clit, beginning to massage the bundle of nerves there gently. "It's pelvic massage, they say it's something that may help to aid women with your condition". He explained, feeling her back arch slightly as he touched her.
"My condition..." she breathed, trying not to enjoy it as much as it was possible to. "I...I don't have hysteria..."
"That is yet to be answered". He replied, fingers now dipping into her and feeling how wet she was. "But this form of release could help any future episodes that you may experience".
Her back arched more, hips beginning to move against his hand. "Twice a week, perhaps three times depending on the severity..." he continued, fingers beginning to work faster and feeling her start to clench around him.He withdrew them, trailing her wetness back to her clit and circling it again, Dinah soon feeling the need to climax.
"That's it, release all that hysteria from you". Steve soothed as he felt her now soak his hand as she finished. Her breath ragged and looking a little shocked at just what she had done.
"I, erm..." she began but didn't quite know what to say. Her cheeks flushed a flattering shade of pink that made her look healthier than she felt.
"You can put your skirts back down now". Steve told her and washed his hands at the nearby sink. "Now...would you say that this kind of treatment would be beneficial?"
She sat up after smoothing her skirts down and looked at him. "I wouldn't know unless it were to be a regular thing. As you said, depending on severity - only then would I be able to tell you if it's working or not".
He turned and smiled at her in such a way that she was all but ready to suggest another round of treatment tomorrow.
"Trust me Dinah, this? It will work..."
