chapter 18: what they know

"Jack, can we go for a walk?" I said hoping to god he would be able to tell that I needed to talk to him right that instant.

"sure let me just change into some new clothes" 

"no" I shouted pulling him back as he started to walk to the door.

"ok. are you alright? did something happen at the school?"

"lets just go" I said trying to get him to follow.

"ok. You're scaring me what's up?" 

when we were on the road I told him "Your dads not ok?"

"ok i mean i kind of got that already," he said

"no i mean he's not ok. my mom did something to him." I said hurriedly

"what do you mean?" he asked alarm raising in his voice

"mom was giving him commands and talking to him like a dog. he responded to her but in this hipnotic voice."

"that's weird" he said 

"ya then she said you will forget this ever happened when i snap my fingers or whatever."

for a long moment, he just stared off into the distance with his thinking face.

"jack. what's happening? I'm scared. they threatened the guys. they threatened you." 

"Hannah don't think about it. I know it's scary but il keep you safe. don't let what might happen affect you. I promise you I won't let it happen. I'm right here." he grabbed my hand and pulled me in a tight embrace.

we continued to walk for another hour. him holding me in a tight embrace and every now and then he kissed my forehead and told me something sweet. he is my security and keeps me safe.

"so that prophecy. do you believe it?" I asked

"If you were to tell me I would have superpowers like travel through walls, shot fire from my hands, and freeze things with just the thought. I would have sent you straight to a mental ward. What's happening to me is bizarre but as bizarre as it is I know it's true. I can deny that as much as I can deny that I drink water. there's just no way I can deny that part of me."

"so your not scared that you might die?" I said angrily. he would be ok with just leaving me. al because of some superpower. whats wrong with him.

"Hannah I have to tell you something."

"ok" I said hesitantly

"that file. i took a page when no one was looking"

"continue," I said

"your mom and dad are both in this cult. they believe that these gods can be controlled. but there were some personal notes from your mom. shes trying to recruit you or that's her plan anyways" jack said putting his head down like he was worried about my reaction.

"what about my dad? what does he do in the organization?" I asked

"he's in the same place. he's trying to recruit you like your mom. She feels like if she had you in the group then maybe both of you could kick him out vis-versa." 

"ok" I said

"ok?" jack seemed confused

"Ya ok. it adds up. why they fight over me like they do." I said

jacks face read confused at the reaction I gave

"its my turn. to share possible bad news. i think the subject being mind controlled was your dad."

b"ecause of the weird things your mom was saying. what if it's nothing? what if and I know this would be weird but at this point my dad wouldn't surprise me if he was into some kinky shit."
