we watched as shade pored some water on Devonta. then with a click he slamed his mechanical hand into the back of his neck. electricity could be seen pulsing al throughout his body.
Shade stood behind him convulsing as if he felt the electricity through his body as well. then when d slumped over so did shade. a solder ran up and injected something into shades neck. with a sudden movement shade grabbed the man and throw him away. shade woke up and started to shake off the durt that got on him.
"what the hell? why did shade fall over?"
"Because they are linked." The realization hit me all at once. He told us how his daughter wasn't afraid of the man who broke in and how the babysitter was confused.
"linked? What does that even mean?" arron asked
"Remember, in the files, there was another subject that we didn't recognize. It talked about duplicating cells. What if they managed to do that to Devonta, and it created some sort of clone?"
"ya, but they look nothing alike."
"well I'm sure they wouldn't if they wanted to make a supersolder. but I bet my life that if we were to take the mechanical parts off and keep his face it would be devonta."
"ok, even if that was true, why did they both convulse?"
"that's the only thing I can't put together. there's something deeper."
"whatever it is we cant just let them take him."
great looks like another person to save without the powers" Mitchell said with malic in his voice looking right at me.
"it was for your good."
"bullshit. Speak for yourself not me. you know, typically, I wouldn't swoop to bens level. But you know I just might ditch you crazy people." he said.
"if that's what it takes to keep you safe, that's fine with me." I quipped back
"Hannah, do you even hear yourself? You saw that army they sent to get the stone. Just imagine what they look like at HQ," Mitchel said, turning back around to face me.
"That's why we sneak in and get them 2 out without making them notice us," I said, trying to be optimistic
"and how do you think we can do that?" Mitchel said pesamisticaly
"find a way to sneak in." I said flatly, not caring what they thought at this point.
"Suicide. I'm sorry but bens right." arron spoke up. This shocked me as he stood by me this whole time.
"so what? give up on our friend? I'm surrounded by cowards." I shouted walking towards the direction the cars drove.
"At least I'm not a wannabe," he yelled. That made me stop.
"and what does that mean?" I said, feeling the pain of that comment
"That means you're letting your obsession with feeling loved determine your life choices."
"so what is it to you if that's why." I said, knowing that they were partially right.
"Because you're a risk. you're so obsessed that you can't see the truth right in front of you. that's how people end up dead."
"I see the truth." I pouted
"No you don't," he said firmly
"Yes, I do. I just don't care." I yelled To be honest,
there was silence after I screamed that.
"Hannah, we care. You matter, and if you go into this without perspective, it would be for nothing. We do this smart, or we don't do this at all." arron said putting his hand on my shoulder.
