After a few weeks...
"How are things at the University?" Sandra asks Jenice.
The two went out for a coffee in the city center today, after not seeing each other for many months.
It turns out that Sandra also resigned from the strip club. She well-informed Jenice of the reason that she was sexually assaulted by a customer. That was the last straw, and she left from there.
Both knew about the risk due to their job. They took the risk into their own hands. One by one, the first Jenices accomplished that it was not worth wasting their years there. It was a fascinating experience though. And particularly if the two did not work there, they would not have met and formed such a wonderful friendship.
Sandra chose a path similar to Jenice's. She enrolled in the medical school.
"Everything is fine," smiles Jenice, stirring in her cup of hot coffee. "I can't believe that I will graduate next year. Time passed so quickly. And I'm happy for you too. Do you want to become a physician?"
"Oh no. I want to become an ob-gyn. My mother almost lost her life when she had me. Due to the negligence of the ob-gyn, at that time, she had to have an hysterectomy after my birth. That's how I became her only child," Sandra looks sad. "I want to help bring babies into the world and at the same time, keep their mothers healthy.
Who knows, girl... Maybe in a few years I'll be your ob-gyn," Sandra giggles."Oh Gosh," laughs Jenice and sips from the cup.
"Honestly, I'm surprised that I haven't heard any news until now," Sandra shows a mischievous look.
"Nikki and I are still at an impasse," Jenice's voice cools down. "We have to take it easy. Anyway, I don't think that a pregnancy at this time is a good idea. A child does not fortifies a relationship between their parents. I know that because I had to learn it from the hard way with Sarah's father. I want some time to pass... To know for sure that everything will be fine. I want the two of us to have a stable relationship before we have children."
" How are things between you two?" Sandra seems worried." I thought you'd already reconciled."
" Well... I'm not sure..." Jenice shrugs.
"Girl," her friend arches an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"Let me tell you. It happened on his birthday. I organized a surprise party for him. Sarah was so excited to help. And Nikki," Jenice smiles with a lost look. "It was a wonderful evening. All our friends were there, his bandmates... And... Towards the end, we were both outside and... I don't know what happened exactly. It was as if we both had bright lights in our eyes. Well... We kissed. After all this time of arguing and coldness between us, we took this step. Was awesome. We had already started to make out there but we were interrupted by one of his bandmates. I don't know exactly who. And..." Jenice seems to be at a loss for words.
"And?" Sandra asks to know more.
"And that's it," the brunette shrugs." Nothing else happened to that evening. Almost a week has passed since then. We were also busy, which is true. He at the studio, recording a new Album, and I at the University. Christmas is coming. It's still a little unclear..."
"Oh, girl," Sandra breathes out desolated." You two need to reconcile once and for all. You are made for each other. I can't forget how he followed you around the club and you ignored him," she giggles. "And you didn't want to admit that you also felt what he felt. You are like a couple from a love movie. Your love story is a wonderful one."
"I just wish it would end beautifully like any love story," sighs Jenice.
"I think you are on the right track," says Sandra honestly. "Girl. Go and get your man! What are you waiting for?"
Jenice smiles, a little blush settles on her cheeks. And yet she doesn't know why she feels mixed feelings in her heart.
After a few days...
Jenice makes her way out of the University structure, as she finished her classes today. Today she had several extra classes and had to stay up late. Only a few students stuck around. Two now go out, Jenince remaining alone.
It was hard for her to focus today on how many unlisted thoughts she has. Thoughts about Nikki.
The two still don't seem to be taking further steps to finally reconcile. As if something is holding them back. Maybe the stress of their busy routines is also to blame.
Plus there is a child in the middle. Sarah requires a lot of attention. Jenice tries to keep her away from her and Nikki's problems. It's not easy though. Regardless of her young age, Sarah can identify that things are not very good between her mother and Nikki. Something that cannot but affect her. Jenice is aware of this.
And yet... When will things return to normal? She had a beautiful relationship with Nikki, everything blossomed, a wonderful bond was formed. At least Sarah adores him. She definitely sees him as the father she never had. It cannot end here. It can not.
Jenice goes down the stairs tiringly, with her books in her arms. She looks in the direction where she parked her car.
She almost drops the books, her feet stop on the pavement. With a petrified look, she stares at Nikki who has his motorcycle parked next to her car.
Jenice can't remember the last time he used to riding it. But she remembers when at the beginning of what was to become their relationship, she saw him riding it. And those memories create tinglings in her stomach.
And the tinglings in her stomach increase because he infiltrates her with his sly look, putting a grin on his face.
He steps ahead as Jenice feels that her heart is pounding so fast that it feels like it will explode like dynamite.
"How long have you been waiting here?" She questions him.
"It doesn't matter," he stops very close to her. "I came to take you to a beautiful place."
"What place?" Jenice shakes her head and blushes a little.
"You'll see if you get on," Nikki gestures towards the motorcycle.
Jenice stares at the motorcycle, looking doubtful. Completely confounded, unexpected by such a surprise on his part.
"So, you come?" He asks her once more and offers his hand towards her.
The brunette looks at him with trembling eyes.
Meanwhile, Nikki can't believe it when he sees Jenice rushing away to her car. He throws a puzzled look and relaxes both his arms. He feels defeated. Everything he plans falls apart.
Jenice opens the car door, throwing the books in.
There is the time she turns to look at him, smiling. Nikki is taken by surprise, because he thought in a stupor that Jenice was going to leave. Instead, the brunette goes to him, her face is beaming, her eyes are sparkling.
He winces back at her as she extends her hand to him.
"Let's go," she smiles widely.
That's all he wishes to hear, and at that very moment he pulls her hand, their chests touch.
As their eyes meet, they can no longer resist and kiss passionately, giving free rein to everything they felt until then. Emptying all the aversion and frigidity from them. Feeding each other with the sheer love that did not fade away as it was hypothetical. Neither of them would want to be parted from each other. The same intimacy they felt in the night when they kissed on the balcony on Nikki's birthday. The same pleasurable touch, the warmth of their bodies squeezed against each other. The sweetness and moisture of their lips. Something they craved but their pride was too great to admit. So far.
They break the kiss and Nikki cups her warm face in his hands, whispering so sweetly:
"Let's go babe. It's getting late."
Indeed, it's already pretty late, in a short time it will be dark.
Jenice gives him a soft smile, blushing even more, a sight that Nikki loves to see.
Clasping their hands, they stroll to the motorcycle where they get on, Jenice coiling her hands on Nikki's chest as he starts the motorcycle and together leave the University parking lot.
