Chapter 45

The next day...

Nikki and Jenice fondly hold their newborn twins. Dustin is in his father's arms and Damian is in his mother's arms.

After Jenice nurses Dustin for the first time, Nikki picks him up and rocks him to sleep. Now it's Damian's turn to be breastfed, as Jenice carefully holds him to her chest, watching him feed.

Nikki jokes that they look like two little hungry piglets.

They are both quite heavy for twins. Damian is 6.83 lbs and Dustin is 6.61 lbs. Given the fact that they are not premature, the twins have a perfect weight. Jenice jokes about this with Nikki, telling him that she makes big babies. Sarah weighed almost 8.81 lbs at birth. So it's no wonder the twins are big too.

There is a knock on the door and it opens slightly. In comes Sarah for the first time, smiling from ear to ear, blue balloons in one of her hands and two extra blue teddy bears in the other hand.

Behind her is Lily, Rob and Sandra.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Sarah shouts and runs, braking in front of her mother's bed. "The babies! How adorable and small they are!" Sarah shows her excitement.

"Hey, honey," smiles Jenice. "Did you bring presents for your siblings?"

"Oh yes!" Sarah giggles and points at the teddy bears.

She goes to her mother's bedside, Rob from behind helps her up to her mother's side. Nikki walks over with Dustin, leaving him in the arms of his mother, who is also holding Damian. Sarah places a teddy bear next to each newborn. They are sleeping. Damian however seems a little more rattled, waving his hands.

"I think they like your present, sweetie," says Nikki to his daughter.

"I believe that too!" Sarah is delighted and keeps her eyes on her brothers. "Can I hold them?"

"Of course you can," smiles her mother.

"But don't speak too loud though. You can wake them up," says Nikki.

"Oh, it's okay," says Jenice, looking at her husband. "Babies need to get used to noisy places. That's how I practiced with Sarah when she was a baby."

"You can see who has more experience with babies," giggles Lily further back, Nikki smiles crookedly, blushing a little.

"He will also have the necessary experience soon," Jenice giggles.

Jenice places Damian in Sarah's arms. On the other hand, Nikki gives Dustin to Sarah.

The little girl looks with bright eyes at her brothers. She finally has siblings too. As she wished.

The rest of people come and congratulate their parents. And they ask Jenice how she's feeling after the surgery.

So far Jenice is fine. She didn't have any unpleasant experience like that with Sarah's birth. The effect of the anesthesia has worn off since yesterday and she is in a bit of pain now, but the painkillers are helping her.

Some time ago she got up to walk. It looks like she will have a quick recovery.

"They are so cute!" Sandra attests. "I can't wait to have a baby myself one day."

"Do you want to give us news?" Jenice arches an eyebrow.

"Slow down, Jen!" Sandra smiles, her face red. "I said that one day I want to have a baby too. Not now," she looks at Rob, him smiling and taking her hand in his. "Rob and I decided to wait a few more years."

"Oh, I was really expecting to hear the news that I will be an aunt," Jenice says in a half disappointed-half sly tone.

"You'll be an aunt, sis," her brother tells her. "But not now."
