Chapter 38

Jenice's shaking hands are stirring the cup of tea that Lily had made for her.

Sandra is next to her on the couch, looking worried.

Jenice slowly sips the hot liquid and leaves the cup on the coffee table.

She is still trembling. The scene seen a few hours ago, made her so flustered. Fortunately for the driver, he is alive. He was taken to the hospital immediately and the doctors believe that he will make it.

The police came to the scene and they took her to the station where they asked her numberless questions. Jenice gave them everything she knew.

Now it's night, she's at home, trying to rest. She has to do it for her, because otherwise all this stress and fatigue will affect the twins as well.

Sarah is in her mother's bedroom with Lily by her side. She's probably sleeping. Inside, by the door is Rob guarding it. Outside, near the closed door, are two bodyguards. Desperate situations call for desperate measures.

"Jen..." Sandra speaks weakly, gently rubbing Jenice's arm. "Are you better now?"

"A little," the brunette nods, looking stressed. "I'll feel better when that idiot gets caught. Cursed be the day we've met!" Jenice spits out the words with gravity in her voice.

Sandra looks hopelessly at her, hoping at the same time that all this mess would end.

A car is heard, and its headlights flash through the windows.

Jenice flinches and looks scared out the window. A black SUV pulls into the driveway and Nikki gets out, his look mixed with anxiety and fear.
Jenice breaths a sigh of relief to know him here.

Soon, the door is heard and Jenice goes there as fast as she can.

Nikki looks startled at first when he sees her so suddenly and how shaken she is. She cries, throwing herself into his arms, he quickly catches her, patting her back.

"Hey honey. I'm here now. I came as fast as I could. Are you ok? Sarah?" He looks up the huge marble stairs.

"She's fine. She probably fell asleep after Lily read her a bedtime story. Rob is there with them."

Nikki seems to be calming down, controlling his breathing and racing pulse.

"I'm sorry you had to leave the tour..."

"Babe... There were only a few more concerts. What is happening is urgent. Everyone understood that. That's not what we need to worry about now," he places a hand on her tummy." How are they?" He smiles weakly, remembering that she had a checkup today.

"They are fine," she nods, cracking a small smile.

The couple goes to the living room. Sandra greets Nikki as they sit on the sofa. Nikki makes sure Jenice needs anything and left, walking up the stairs.

Sarah sleeps nestled by her stuffed toys, as always. Tom sleeps on the bed, at her feet, almost disguising himself as a toy.

Lily is sitting on the chair next to the bed, with a book in her hand, watching down at the little girl. She glances back at Nikki, surprised at first by his appearance, but she smiled warmly at him. Nikki smiles at her too and asks if she needs anything. The woman says no, smiling more.

Nikki looks to his left and sees Rob. They greet each other, both smiling.

"Are you sure you don't need anything?" Sandra asks Jenice.
