The apology

With the arrival back to school, everyone was buzzing about their gifts and the breaks. Within a quick week they were back to their normal routine. Breakfast, then classes, then lunch, then more classes, break to be used how they saw fit, dinner, and then finally bed. It wasn't out of the ordinary for the marauders to play tricks or pranks, but when the first month passed by and no trick or prank was played people began to worry. No changing hair to match house colors, no spiking the butterbeer with pumpkin water. Nothing, it was as if the jokes had died, as if the fun had left them and it did.

Sirius and James still weren't speaking but had moved on to nudges and little excuse me and other formalities. Without the two of them functioning properly and acting like themselves the pranks never came. Sure they had some good ideas but they know their weakness. James had an idea to get feathers and make them stick across the walls of the great hall, he told peter who said it sounded like fun but was shot down by the other two marauders. Sirius had an idea to bewitch the brooms to fly over the yard and do a dance whenever someone tried to use them, he told Remus but the other toe boys shot it. Everyone knew that James could convince Peter to pay yes and Sirius could convince Remus to say yes. Usually the two boys would make their plan and then convince the other marauder of their ingenious idea which quickly got accepted since all 4 members were on board, but now there was a struggle for power.

"You know Pete, we haven't done anything since we came back, '' James exclaimed while fixing his hair for the millionth time.

"I know but we can't get Sirius and Remus to say yes, usually Sirius did that and since you're not talking who's gonna convince him, you know how mad moons can be if we go behind his back and do something stupid, plus I bet he likes it. He was always the one to bail us out or get Grace to help us. I don't know, maybe leave it and dont push till you make amends." Peter said while getting up out of bed and walking downstairs to the common room.

"Make amends" James scoffed at the mere suggestion of saying sorrying to Sirius " he should apologize to me, he's dating my sister, I swear if he breaks up with her I'm going to kill him. Why should I make amends when he was the one who messed the friendship up? Now we're dysfunctional because he couldn't stay away from her, "James said, getting agitated wondering how to fix this. A few minutes later, Remus walks in with his book and the half eaten chocolate bar he had started. He sat on his bed paying no mind to James as he normally did.

"Hey moons, is it weird, you know about our friendship?" James asked, earning a look from Remus, who put his book down but not before marking it with some random paper on his table.

"What about you and sirius? Yes and no. Everyone knows you two are fighting but everyone knows you'll make up. I'm not surprised you guys have lasted this long truthfully. He stayed mad at you for 3 months just because you used the last of his hair product and didn't replace it. You two always bicker and fight but you guys always come back from it.'' The tall boy started walking next to James and putting his hand on his back. " Just remember while he's dating your sister, you dated his brother and broke up with him, then lied and hid it from us. At least sirius told us they were together when the relationship was starting, you lied and hid. When Sirius found out he was furious, his best friend broke his little brother's heart. While you and regulus made amends Sirius never forgave you. Not for doing it but for keeping it from him, he had to hear it from Grace, he didn't even hear the full thing. That night after the fight Sirius went to look for Regulus and to tell him about the detention, he found him in Grace's room, paler than the moon, Grace was wrapping bandages around his arms and chest. The poor boy tried to hurt himself but grace found him before it could've been worse. Sirius wanted to take him to madam pomfreys but Grace decided not to, knowing it would draw more unwanted attention then they needed. Sirius came back to the room that night and woke me up saying it was an emergency and reg needed help. Grace looked a mess, puffy eyes swollen cheeks, she had been crying for hours. When we tried to move Reg away from her she screamed and said he stayed there on her lap. He would lay on her lap while he told her about you. She would braid his hair while he told her, he didn't hide it from her because she knew it would break her trust and all they ever wanted was someone to know them for them. The three of us did everything, every spell, every potion just so he could wake up. But we knew he needed time. So we waited. When morning came and he still didn't wake up, I left to go get food for us and to come back down and be there for them, because they were there for me. We waited for any sign of him to wake up. I told Sirius that he has to go to pomfrey or I'm going to bring her because of how bad his wounds were. That night he moved, his arm twitched just enough to see and wonder if you're actually seeing this. All three of us had cloudy eyes from crying and wondering if he was going to make it. He slowly began to wake up and move his body, Sirius stood there astonished and happy that his baby brother came back to him. Sirius grabbed the boy and hugged him, they didn't say anything, they just sat there. Reg slowly pulled his hands up winching from the pain and hugging his brother back, crying and breaking down in his arms. All you could have heard was quiet im sorrys being whispered from both brothers. The brothers forgave each other almost instantly. We later joined the hug telling Reg it's okay and to never do it again. Ever since then sirius always checks his little brother scared he's going to do it again. Grace makes sure that his homework and his school work is always done and if feels pressured, she helps him through it. I watched him at every meal making sure he eats enough and asked him what's wrong if he doesn't eat or leaves quickly. See James what secrets do. They destroy. That is why friends should never have secrets. If something were to happen to grace you would rather know? That's how Sirius felt. You broke Regulus and now you're mad at Sirius for dating Grace, come on, it's hypocritical. Don't let your arrogance get in the way of your friends and family. We'll always be there for you but remember secrets destroy but they always, always come out.'' Remus said while walking away from the boy who needed a minute.
