Looking into the rear-view mirror Jake sees that 3 of his four kids are asleep. Kiri, Tuk and Lo'ak. He chuckles at Lo'ak drooling on the seatbelt and catches Neteyams eye who also starts laughing at his brother after realizing what his father is looking at.
Jakes wife looks at Jake and then at Neteyam who just points at Lo'ak with a hand over his mouth to stifle the laughter coming from his mouth trying not to wake anyone up. Neytiri looks at Lo'ak and smiles at the boy sleeping peacefully. Tuk and Kiri in the back are leaned up against each other.
Jake turns his eyes back to the road and continue driving when the road when a voice startles him. "Turn left in 13 Kilometers" He roll my eyes at this. He didn't think needed directions but Neytiri had insisted that he use the navigator.
13 kilometers later there is a sign saying "Riverton 20km" pointing to the left turn. Jake turned on the indicator and turned left. Riverton was the place where they were heading.
A mate of Jakes, Tonowari, he had found out that we were deciding to leave Africa and decided to call Jake telling me that his family should come to New Zealand and take the now open house next to them in Riverton. Jake had spoken to Neytiri about it and she agreed so they bought the house and now here were.
A little while later Jake heard a yawn from behind him and looked in the mirror to see Lo'ak had awoken and was now wiping the drool off his face.
"Are we almost there yet?" a little voice came from the back and Jakes turned my eyes to see Tuk and Kiri had also woken up. "Almost Tuk" Neytiri told her. Everyone started talking about what they thought it would be like for what felt like the millionth time this car ride.
Finally after what seemed like more hours, they turned a corner and a sign showed up "WELCOME TO RIVERTON" there were houses all up a hill and down the side of the road. "Ooo this is nice!" "Wow look there's the beach right there!" and sure enough there it was, the beach.
Neytiri took out her phone and texted someone. "Who ya texting Tiri?" "Just Ronal asking where the house is" "Ok then my love" gagging noises could be heard from the back seats and Jake just rolled his eyes at his immature children.
"Ronal told me that she would meet us at a little cafe called 'The Cabin'" "Ok lets go find 'The Cabin'!" The children sat up straight and looked out of their windows trying to be the first to spot the cafe.
"Oh there it is!" Kiri had found it first so she had won the game. They play this game the kids that whenever we are trying to find something the first one to find it gets a treat and in this case they get first dibs on a room.
"Damn! I should have seen that!" Lo'ak laughed and looked at the small cafe as they pulled into the parking lot. Jake turns off the car engine and turns to face the kids. "Ok this is it you all get to meet my friend Tonowari and his family but you all have to be very respectful and watch your wording ok."
There was the sound of "Yes sir" echoing through the car and Jake nodded "Good, you may all get out now, Neteyam, Lo'ak let your sisters out don't just leave them in the back." They nodded and hopped out of the car as Jake did the same and went round to Neytiris side and opened the door for her with a little bow.
"Oh you-" she shoved him playfully and got out of the car closing it behind her. Jake smiles and just then another car pulls up beside them and in the drivers seat Jake sees a familiar smile. Tonowari. Jake smiles widely and calls everyone over. While they wait for the family to get out of the car when another car pulls up.
In it was Ronal with an older woman who Jake did not know. Neytiri walked over to that car with Kiri and Tuk to greet Ronal. Tonowari steps out of the car and pulls Jake into a rough hug. "Kia ora Jake! My good friend! It is good to see you again" Jake hug him back still smiling. (Kia ora means hello in Māori)
"You as well Tonowari you as well!" They step back from eachother and Jake waves a hand at his 2 sons standing next to him who had been watching this interaction. "These are my two sons Neteyam and Lo'ak" They both greet Tonowari warmly when 2 boys and a older man walk around the side of the car. Tonowari introduces them.
"This is my son Ao'nung and his best frind Rotxo and this is Rotxos Grandfather Rongo." Jake shakes their hands and Neteyam does the same while Lo'ak just gives them a simple hello.
Ao'nung was a tall boy and Rotxo was quite a bit shorter then he was. Rongo was definitely a lot shorter than them and I wasn't sure if that was to do with age or he was just a short man.
