Chapter 12 - Kai

Wait. They were coming the surf meet? Did they even know where it was? Well I mean it's on the beach obviously but it's awhile away. Should someone tell them or are we just gonna make them find it alone? Shit. I grab out my phone and go onto snap.

[Me] Hey do you guys even know where you are going?
[NETEYAM] Uh shoot uh no we do not lol.
[Bully😔] You still say 'lol' wtf💀
[Lo'bark] You still use the 💀 emoji?
[Me] Oml
[KIRI🙏] Can yall stfu
[Me] Nah cuz fr
[NETEYAM] So where are we going?
[Kind soul😭] We can take your family if you want it will make it alot easier.
[NETEYAM] If it's no big deal that would be great!
[Ew.🤢] Yeah we will have be in 3 or 4 cars tho
[NETEYAM] Ma says that it's no problem as long as we get there.
[Me] Cool how about you come over in 10?
[NETEYAM] OK! See you soon!

I threw my phone onto my bed and got busy looking for some clothes to wear. I didn't want to wear my good school clothes to the beach cause they would get well. All sandy. Eventually I found some shorts and a colorful low-cut tank top.

Rotxo walked into my room wearing almost the same thing.
"Hey you copied me!" I stared at him annoyed.
"You know I didn't leave my room right?"
"Yeah whatever dude hurry up Nan wants us over to the Metkyinas now."
"Right yeah coming!" Rotxo left and I followed him slipping my jandals on at the same time. Nan and Pop were standing at the door talking about something.

"Rongo if you even have more then 1 drink today you are not driving home. Got it."
"Yes yes dear alcohol equals no driving got it." Nan sighed and rolled her eyes at him. I laughed and so did Rotxo.

We all went over to the Metkyinas and waited for the Sullys to show up. Ao had already left in his car so that he could warm up and get used to the water. This was his first competition of the season so he was nervous. I had brought along my video camera to record the whole thing.

"Hey Kai! Catch!" A ball hit me on the head and I looked up in surprise to find my idiot brother smirking at me.
"Your supposed to catch the ball teina not let it hit your upoko."
(Teina=brother, upoko=head)
I rolled my eyes picking up the ball and throwing it at him. But he just grabbed it and went off.

The Sullys showed up and we all piled into the cars. I was in the car with Mr Sully, Pop, Lo'ak, Kiri and Reya. I was next to Reya and we were in the back of the car. Pops was driving. The place was about a ten minute drive but it always felt longer.

I was wondering what Ao was feeling right now. Was he nervous. He had to be. I mean sure he had done this like a thousand times but a new family were bow watching. And surely he would want to impress someone there right? Actually now that I think about it he had never really been into well.. anyone. He had only had a few 'flings'.

The car stopped and Pops turned the keys turning off the engine. We were here finally.
"Everyone excited!?" Pops had his usual enthusiasm to him as he got out the car. I waited for Lo'ak to get out then climbed over the chair to get out myself.
"Kai! Just put the seat down oh my eywa!"

Reya put the seat infront of her down and got out.
"No thanks that take to long haha"
"IT takes longer for you to to get your body over then it takes to put a single seat down!"
"Yeah yeah whatever" Everyone else was pulling up and I started looking around for Ao and saw him standing in the water.

"Kai! Come on we going to find a good spit to set up!" WE always set up a blanket or two to sit on when we are here.
"Yep coming!" Running over to them I bumped into someone.
"Shit sorry!" I turned to the person and saw Jaymee.
"Nevermind. I hope that hurt." I then ran over to the rest.
"What took you so long gee?" My brother was beside me now.
"Ran into Jaymee." Ronal turned to us.
"Oh Jaymee. How's he doing?" Rotxo eyed me.
"He ain't our friend no more." She looked surprised at this.
"Oh well why not?"

I didn't speak since I wasn't there when it happened but Rotxo didn't either. Ronal just left us be and went over to Reya no doubt asking her what happened.

We set everything up and Mr Sully and Tonowari went to get drinks and food from the food vans and trucks that had parked themselves up at the sand line.
"Ao'nung is going to surf in front all these people?" I looked up to find Neteyam looking at the crowd of people. The boy was tall. Not taller the Ao but still tall.

"Yeah he is! He's done it so many times so he'll be fine don't worry yourself mate." Rotxo smiled at Neteyam.
"I'm not worried I'm just meaning that he's got alot of balls. I could never do this."
"Well you don't know how to surf so you should be fine."
"Yeah true" A voice suddenly came over the loud speaker they had.

"Welcome everyone to this seasons surf competition!" There were cheers.from the crowd. There were so many people this year. Which means more competition. Which means the lower the percentage of winning for Ao.

"Haha yes we are all very excited I see. Well today is the perfect day for it. The waves are nice and big and the sun is nice and high. Let's just hope the competitors are pretty bad..
