the transport
When Poe woke up, his first thought was of Padme.
And everyone knew it.
He shot up from where he had been laying and stood on shaky feet as he searched the room with wide eyes, unable to locate the girl who had consumed his every thought since they had been trapped together in a cell almost two months earlier.
"Where is she?" He commanded more than asked a nearby crew member who looked at him with wide eyes and did not speak out of anxiety.
But then, Poe's eyes landed on the cruiser that they were escaping.
"No, no, no." He yelled with a gasp as he rushed to the window and slammed his hand against the glass. "No."
"As dramatic as ever, I'm glad to see." A voice called from behind him. A voice he knew all too well.
Turning so fast he was sure he dislodged his brain, Poe's eyes met the hazel eyes of Padme Organa-Solo, cloaked in white with braids that framed either side of her face as she grinned at him. She was breathtaking, even with the pale white scar that marred her face just below her eye.
Poe wasted no time in rushing towards her and wrapping his arms around her as though he was afraid she would dissipate into the air around them.
"I thought..." Poe said breathlessly, feeling the soft laugh of the girl against his chest as he moved so his forehead was pressed against hers. "I thought..."
"You thought you could get rid of me that easily?"
Poe moved his hands so they cupped her face, trying to se if she was really real, while still with their foreheads pressed against one another. It was so surprisingly tender in a way no one else on the transport had ever seen the pilot act. Only ever for this girl.
"Never do that to me again, princess." He said, staring into her hazel eyes that held galaxies as the corners crinkled into a small smile that he knew so well.
"I wouldn't dream of it, flyboy."
Poe's fingers ghosted over the hollow of her cheeks; his touch was feather-like but it didn't fail for butterflies to flutter into her stomach. She tenderly smiled at him, feeling high on the feeling that floated into her belly, head and heart.
Something had changed between them both. This was no longer merely friendly. It was so much more.
She stepped closer to let her nose brush against his and he closed his eyes in contentment, bringing his hand at the nape of her neck.
But then, they were interrupted.
"As sweet as this is." Leia's voice called from behind Padme. "I gotta show you're pilot something over here."
With one last look to Poe, Padme turned to walk towards her mother. But as she did so, Poe's larger fingers interlaced with her smaller ones. Refusing to let go of her even as they walked towards Leia who nodded out of the window, showing Poe a planet in the distance.
"What is that?" Poe asked, brow winkling in confusion.
"The mineral planet, Crait." One of the crew members said from behind them. "An uncharted hideout from the days of the Rebellion."
"That's a rebel base?"
"Abandoned." The crew member responded, eyes latched on the planet out of the window. "But heavily armoured. With enough power to get a distress signal to our allies in the Outer Rim."
