Luo Lin smiled and then pulled his lover's hand while inching to the right. He wasn't worried. Why would he? They weren't facing the demonic faction and he wasn't alone either. Especially the latter was important. He could live with being caught. He could deal with it if his secret was exposed. He couldn't face being alone again though. Not after meeting Shen Lei.
He stopped after barely moving an inch and looked at Shen Lei. "Let's take a look."
Shen Lei nodded with a hum and watched as Luo Lin leaned forward and drew the smallest circle on the wall of the dreamscape. His brows raised faintly and his eyes curved in a smile. He had just wanted to suggest doing this to avoid being found as much as possible. They truly were thinking the same. "What do you see?"
Luo Lin hummed, hugged his lover's waist, and then leaned to the other side with his support, drawing another circle to peer out from that direction. "The hill is to our left hand now."
"Well, at least we were going in the right direction?" Shen Lei pulled Luo Lin up again and helped him close the window.
Luo Lin nodded. It was a pity that this hadn't always been the case while they traveled today. Sometimes, they'd go west but accidentally end up in the southeast. "I should have asked senior Blue Butterfly more questions when I tried to copy her ability."
"Well, it's too late now but we'll figure it out on our own." Shen Lei kissed the top of Luo Lin's head and then motioned ahead again. "Come on, let's try again."
Luo Lin nodded, took a deep breath, and tried to focus. From what he had seen so far, this seemed important: If his thoughts strayed, so would the dreamscape. Even a throwaway idea might cause them to go off-course. Well, at the very least, they hadn't stumbled upon anyone else.
From what he had understood, Blue Butterfly was able to enter other people's dreams and influence them. This matter, he figured it should be impossible for his own dreamscape. Yes, maybe in his case, even calling this place a dreamscape was wrong because it didn't require either of them to be asleep or for him to enter any special state. It was a bit like ... he just needed to close his eyes and the next moment, he could already be inside. After a few tries, he didn't even need to step inside and could just will the room to appear around them.
Luo Lin pondered the meaning of the room, not moving for the moment.
Shen Lei naturally realized that something was going on but he didn't rush him. Instead, he just quietly watched his lover's face. If possible, he would do so for a long time. Anyway, this was something he had clawed his way back from death's door to be able to do. And who knew how long he'd still have the chance? Since the future was uncertain, it was best to use every moment to the fullest.
Luo Lin finally hummed and looked up at him. "What do you think the dreamscape is? I mean, not senior Blue Butterfly's dreamscape but mine. Clearly, it works a bit differently even if the ability was copied from her."
Shen Lei pursed his lips, his thoughts roughly following Luo Lin's previous line of thinking. He also thought of the time they had entered Blue Butterfly's dreamscape to experiment with what Yun Bei Fen could or couldn't do. At that time, Luo Lin had realized that there was a certain energy around. "Is there dimensional energy? Then this should be a part of another dimension just like her dreamscape. But maybe it is a different dimension or just the gate to one."
Luo Lin pursed his lips. This whole matter was quite complicated but it seemed to be this way. "How do the dimensions connect then? Do you think that has something to do with the way we are moving?"
Shen Lei turned to the side and pulled Luo Lin back into his arms, his gaze thoughtful. "It might be. As for what the reason is ..." He frowned, thinking of all of their experiences today and the ideas they had previously discussed. "You said that if you lose your focus, we'll end up somewhere else than intended. And if you remember, Ah Guan was able to step into senior Blue Butterfly's dreamscape and out again without her doing anything, also because of his focus. So maybe this is what your ... scape is about. Like a focus-scape."
Luo Lin nodded. "But then, is it my focus creating this place? Because I never thought my focus could rival first senior martial brother."
Shen Lei could only smile wryly. "I wouldn't even dare to assume that my focus can. No, I think it's not just focus either. Mn, if we think about what a dream is ... maybe this is the subconscious and conscious mind aligning. If you want to go somewhere and think of that place and no subconscious thoughts influence you at the time, then you can actually go there. If your subconscious isn't aligned though, it'll detract from your conscious will and make you go somewhere else. Depending on how mismatched they are, the change might be big or small."
Luo Lin pursed his lips. This did seem to be in line with what they had experienced ... "I suppose because first senior martial brother focuses so much on his conscious thoughts, they align for him then?"
"That, or he isn't consciously thinking. He has always been practicing sword arts and much of what he does is muscle memory at this point. It could very well be that he just ... doesn't think at all and acts out of instinct. So if the conscious thoughts are empty, the subconscious thoughts can work on their own which makes it easy for him to connect with senior Blue Butterfly's dreamscape since it is based on the subconscious more than the alignment like yours is."
