Feng Bai Xiao stared at his youngest disciple with some displeasure. "I believe I already told you before that you need not worry about this. We will take care of it. You only need to do as Lei Chen says."

Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows. "You say that but at the same time, you threaten me with my lover's life. So please excuse me when I would like to make sure that things won't go awry simply because I am not sufficiently prepared."

Before the two of them could continue to argue, Lei Chen's voice interrupted them. "The surrounding area is saturated with an energy similar but not exactly alike. You need to distinguish them. As for him, he won't fight back. Your Master will take care of that."

Mei Chao Bing fell silent. These four sentences told him everything he had to know. He still felt somewhat skeptical but ... in a way, it made sense. His Master seemed to have already reached the demigod stage. So even if that person had purer spiritual energy and knew more skills, it might not be impossible for him to ensure that they couldn't put up too much resistance against their energy being taken away.

Maybe his Master even had a specific method to allow this to happen. After all, he had prepared this plan for years. Why wouldn't he have thought of this? Thinking it through from that perspective, Mei Chao Bing nodded. "Fine. Then I won't ask more. Let's continue."

Lei Chen inclined his head as well and then pulled out several stones at once. Neither of them was big, allowing him to fit half a dozen of them on his palm.

Just like before, each of them contained spiritual energy. Paying closer attention and being able to compare them directly, Mei Chao Bing also realized that each of them differed slightly in the type of energy they gave off. There was the sword energy he had noticed earlier, some energy that was similar to the twisted one he knew from the southern chasm, but also other types that should be tied to the different types of cultivation he had seen on the scroll before.

Mei Chao Bing stood only a few steps away from Lei Chen so he could both see the stones and sense the energy they gave off. Comparing both, it was easy to distinguish which energy came from which stone. If this was changed to a bigger area where he couldn't see everything though ... he could see why it was important to learn to sense the difference between the small differences. Although ...

"You said the area surrounding the person or ... maybe the whole array was soaked in the same type of energy they gave off and that I am only supposed to take in their energy but not this energy in their surroundings. Why that? Isn't the advantage of my constitution that I can take in all types of energy? I know you said you were prepared but ... it seems easier to take the energy from the place than the person itself. There wouldn't be any worry about a counterattack or necessary precautions either."

He didn't bother about his Master when he asked this question and instead looked at Lei Chen. Even though this person clearly wasn't easy to speak to, he at least seemed willing to answer a few of his doubts. Maybe this question would be answered as well.

"Mei Chao Bing!" Before Lei Chen had the chance to say a word, Feng Bai Xiao uttered his name in a heavy voice. "Did I not tell you not to bother with this? Learn what you should learn and then follow quietly. Everything else does not concern you." As if he couldn't believe that this person who had once been his disciple would actually listen if he didn't do something more convincing, his hand moved.

Mei Chao Bing's eyes widened and he hastily put up a shield while turning around to Yun Bei Fen, afraid that his Master might have thrown an attack directly.

Thankfully, his Master wasn't that angry yet. There was no attack but the boundary made of spiritual energy that surrounded the array moved inward, making the space inside more cramped. Yun Bei Fen still had enough space to get up and walk two steps but ... it wasn't more than that and this gesture already showed that if Mei Chao Bing dared to try his bottom line again, this space might become more constricted.

Yun Bei Fen also froze when the translucent layer in front of him suddenly moved. He hastily retreated a little and only then looked up at Mei Chao Bing again, his eyes wide. He had tried to follow the exchange in front of him closely so that he wouldn't miss it in case Mei Chao Bing gave him a secret hint that he should do something. Still, he hadn't seen that coming just now. Mei Chao Bing's Master was really too strict!

He rubbed Xiao Hui's fur, feeling aggrieved, but didn't dare to say anything. Even Mei Chao Bing's words were infuriating his Master. How much worse would it be if he tried to do something? Maybe at that time, the array would shrink further and tie him up like a dumpling. It seemed possible if the one to control it was this bad man!

Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows, cursing under his breath. He had only wanted a little more information. Even though he naturally wanted to find a way out of his current predicament, it was also that this information could possibly help him understand his constitution better. After all, what if there was a physical reason it had to be the energy of a person and not that of the surroundings? Shouldn't he be allowed to ask this?

But no matter what he thought, the one to make the final decisions would always be his Master. Since he knew, he shouldn't even try. Right now, he had to lay low so he wouldn't make Yun Bei Fen suffer even more.

Reminding himself that this was futile, Mei Chao Bing sighed and then simply focused on those stones in Lei Chen's hands again, trying to absorb the energy of the one that was similar to the ones from before while ignoring the others. Even if it was tedious and he didn't understand, since this was what was being asked of him, this was what he would do.
