The three of them soon reached the edge of the chasm.
Feng Bai Xiao looked down there but didn't move, making Mei Chao Bing wonder if his Master was savoring the moment of his victory. To be honest ... he didn't seem like the type to do that. No, maybe there was just one more component to his plan that he knew nothing of like having to wait for the right time. Anyway, it didn't matter any longer.
He quietly waited next to him and finally, the three of them made their way down into the chasm a minute or two later.
It was still as dark as ever at the bottom of the chasm but the place they had descended was part of the stretch he had cleaned up with the magical box so at least there were no vengeful spirits around. When seeing this, Mei Chao Bing wasn't sure if he should be annoyed at himself or feel grateful.
Of course, those vengeful spirits wouldn't be difficult to defeat for his Master but they would at least slow him down slightly. Maybe in the meantime, the Elders would come up with something. It was unlikely but who knew? At least he could have kept some hope that way. Now, he could only trail behind his Master until they reached the end of the chasm.
Feng Bai Xiao stood aside and motioned forward. "You know what to do. Start transferring it to Lei Chen first." With that, he simply turned away as if he couldn't care less about this.
Meanwhile, Lei Chen who had been quietly following behind walked up to Mei Chao Bing and then sat cross-legged on the ground. He didn't seem to mind the mixture of vengeful and twisted energy that remained in the land around them. No, he looked as if to him, all of this was normal.
Mei Chao Bing had no idea if this was just a regular thing to demonic practitioners or if it was because Lei Chen had obviously been here before to get those stones he had had him work with before but anyway, it didn't matter.
He also sat down cross-legged in front of Lei Chen, closed his eyes, and then focused on the area ahead of him. He had to admit that Lei Chen's training before had indeed made him more perceptive of the twisted energy that person had cultivated and also how it differed from the energy that had been siphoned out of their body and seeped into the land surrounding them. After starting, he only needed a few moments to figure out where the energy was the thickest, and soon, he caught on to where that person was actually located.
As soon as he did, Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows. The chasm was in the southern part of the continent but still further to the middle of the region lying between the sect grounds of the four great righteous sects. Still, they were obviously far from the actual middle point of the continent and that seemed to be where the person was trapped.
If he hadn't been a nascent soul stage cultivator ... he didn't think he'd have been able to actually spread his spiritual sense this far. And he didn't think that there was another place from which you could easily sense the place and the energy since, well, he had never stumbled upon something like this anywhere else and neither had any other cultivators he knew of.
All of that was to say: His cultivating like crazy in the past five years which he had done to have even the slightest chance to win against his Master ... had actually played into that bastard's hands. If he had been slower in his cultivation, his Master couldn't have gone ahead with his plan. If he had cultivated just as fast but not come out to the border region and kept it more secret ... then the plan also couldn't have started. He really hadn't managed to do anything to make life difficult for his Master and had instead made everything easy for him.
He shook his head at himself but then pushed the thought aside. Since he couldn't change it, he had to live with it. He should just focus on the task at hand and hope that this Lei Chen next to him had enough of a moral sense left to actually give him the crystal later on and maybe even tell him how to move Yun Bei Fen's soul back into his body.
He took another moment to sense more clearly where the person was and then started to slowly try to draw out the energy.
It wasn't easy but not for the reason he would have thought. He had assumed that even if the person was sealed, they might not be completely defenseless. After all, the cultivators back then clearly hadn't been able to abolish that person's cultivation and could only deal with them slowly so if they were attacked, then maybe they'd react. And, well, trying to draw out another cultivator's spiritual energy from their body should be considered an attack, right?
But surprisingly enough, that person didn't react at all. They didn't try to counter-attack or defend, they didn't even move and instead seemed to be frozen on the spot. It really made him wonder what exactly the situation in the array was like. Something seemed off about all of this but he couldn't put his finger on what exactly he had an issue with. Anyway, the whole thing was wrong.
In the end, he simply continued to draw out the spiritual energy and then reached over, taking Lei Chen's hand, and slowly transferring it to him after transforming it. After having practiced before, the process went smoothly enough even though he had to admit that the feeling of that energy flowing into his body and coursing through his veins was anything but pleasant. Twisted was really the only way to describe both the energy and how taking it in felt.
