Just like every year there was a party at the beginning of their school year, and just like every year Regulus attended it with his friends at the room of requirements. However, the moment he got there all he wanted to do was leave and just lie down on his bed with a bottle of fire whiskey. He couldn't bear the thought of seeing Gracie there, his Gracie, and not being with her. He hated it, but he hated himself more for messing everything up.
Over their summer break he would lie awake at night trying to figure out what he possibly could've done to make her avoid him. What had he done? Or was it something he said? He couldn't figure it out.
Merlin, girls are confusing.
One hour into the party and Regulus was drunk and slightly tipsy. He was dancing with Amaya Nott in the centre of the room to 'Stayin' Alive' by Bee Gees. One minute he's dancing with Amaya on the dance floor and the next he's kissing her in one of the hallways. He knew that it wasn't far from the Room Of Requirements because they could still hear the music.
He broke the kiss and looked around trying to get a hold of himself.
"What's wrong?" The beautiful ginger in front of him asked. "Do you want to go back inside?"
"I- uh.... no, it's just-" He kept stuttering trying to stop his head from spinning. He cut himself off by leaning down and kissing the girl in front of him once more. He didn't know why he did it; he just did. His head was spinning and he had lost full control of himself. The next few moments passed by in a blur with Regulus in a whole another world.
They broke apart when they heard footsteps and someone abruptly stopping in front of them. He looked up to where they had come from only to be met by a pair of beautiful chocolate brown eyes. Where had he seen those eyes?
"Sorry... uh I'll leave." The girl said turning around to walk away, and Regulus realized with a start that it was Gracie. Just knowing that Gracie saw them kissing was enough to sober him up.
"Grace. Grace wait" He shouted running after her, but dam was that girl fast. By the time he finally caught up to her they were outside the Hufflepuff common room.
He caught her forearm and turned her around to face him. He immediately regretted it because when he saw the unshed tears in her eyes, his heart was cut clean open. He mentally scolded himself while the same thoughts were running through his head over and over again.
Your fault. You made her cry. She's too good for you.
"Please, let me explain-" Before he could finish she cut him off.
"No." Shaking her head she reiterated, "No."
The look on her face broke him. The tears were falling freely now, and she made no move to wipe them off.
"I'm so sorry. I swear I didn't mean to- I was drunk and I didn't realize what I was doing." He kept rambling.
"Stop, just stop." She muttered putting a hand on his chest. It was only then did he look down and saw what she was wearing and that image sent him spiraling. She was wearing black heels which made her tall enough to reach his shoulders and a beautiful dark blue dress that fitted her perfectly. "We aren't even together. You're a free agent, so don't apologize for kissing her."
"Look I don't know what I did to cause this rift between us but I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry. I didn't even want to go to that stupid party but Barty and Evan dragged me to it. So I had a few drinks to distract my self. I didn't even want to kiss her. I don't think of her like that. It was only a kiss; it didn't mean anything." The words were out of his mouth before he even processed what was going on. If it was any other girl in front of him he wouldn't have even bothered trying to explain himself, much less apologize, but that's exactly what he heard himself doing.
"You don't get to do that." She muttered.
"Do what?"
"Kiss me, take my virginity, and then tell everyone that you'd never in a million years screw me. That you would never stoop so low. Then to top it all off you kiss another girl and the moment you realize that I saw you, you tell me that it didn't mean anything." She sounded angry but with one look in her eyes he knew that she was more hurt than she was angry. "Is it all coming back to you now?"
Before she could go into her common room he pulled her back and held her face in his hands, wiping the tears with his thumbs. He didn't even know what he was thinking but he didn't care because soon he was kissing her. He felt her freeze and just as he was about to pull back and apologize she started kissing him back.
🥀
Grace didn't know why she was upset when she saw Regulus kissing the new exchange student when they weren't even together. It's not like he even wanted to be with her right? She was stupid enough to believe that he liked her so much that she offered up the only thing that he didn't have of hers on a silver platter: her virginity, because Merlin knows that her heart belonged to him and right now it felt like it had been cracked clean open.
She was mad at herself for liking him; hell for even loving him. But she did and she couldn't control it. She loved him and there was nothing she could do about it. So when he kissed her outside of her common room, she couldn't help but kiss him back as all the anger she had previously been feeling faded away and her shoulders sagged against his body leaving her completely bare at his mercy.
She could taste the alcohol and immediately knew that he was drunk. Knowing this she didn't pull away because she knew that the next morning he wouldn't remember this moment. She wasn't a fan of alcohol but at this moment she couldn't care less.
She knew that this was a bad idea. She should've listened to James and stayed as far away from Regulus as possible, but she couldn't; she physically couldn't. It hurt too much: knowing that was with her but not actually with her. They weren't together - not by a long shot.
Yet Grace couldn't help but relax into the kiss. Another thing she hated was her inability to stay angry. It didn't matter if he kissed her or not because she knew that she couldn't have stayed angry at him anyway.
Regulus pulled away and rested his forehead on hers as they both breathed heavily.
"I'm an idiot." He whispered. "I don't know why I said what I said but I'm so sorry, Gracie."
Her heart started to beat so fast when he spoke her name that she was afraid it would burst through her chest.
"Please, just please give me one more chance to make it up to you. I know that I don't deserve you, I know that I'm being selfish by not letting you go, but I can't stay away from you. No matter how hard I've tried. You're the only good thing in my life right now, Gracie." He continued.
"You're drunk-" Grace whispered, sadly. "You won't even remember this."
She turned around untangling herself from his arms and heading to her common room.
"Come back and talk to me when you're sober." She said before leaving.
AN: So what do we think of this chapter? Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?
If any of you are Percy Jackson fans, then it would mean a lot to me if you checked out my Leo Valdez fic called Fearless. Yes I named it after a Taylor Swift song.
PS: Sorry for the late update :( had writers block
