I looked around at the tall walls teeming with magic and mystery. My first day at Hogwarts, I had to admit I was nervous. I was transferring from Ilvermorny, the first transfer Hogwarts had seen in years. My mother, a prominent pure blood from our region, had moved us to London because she was "needed here". For what I didn't know. I never saw her, so it's not like I would've gotten the chance to talk to her about it.
I was a fifth year, so close to being done with school. I begged her to leave me in America but she refused, she simply wouldn't have it. "If you stay, what message would that send?" She'd say. All she ever cared about was the family's image. I sighed as I ran my hand along the Hogwarts walls. I had left my meeting with Dumbledore and was peacefully wandering the halls. Considering I had been a Horned Serpent at Ilvermorny, Dumbledore had decided to transfer me to Slytherin. It had either been that or Ravenclaw.
I had always been naturally in tune with the magic teaming in our world, but the magic at Hogwarts was different... stronger. It would be almost overwhelming if it wasn't so calming. I was so distracted tracing the castle walls with my hand that I noticed a second before I collided with someone that they were there. I stumbled and leaned over to catch myself on the wall as I started profusely apologizing.
"I am so sorry, that was totally my fault!" I began. I looked up at him and couldn't help but feel entrapped by his hazel eyes. "Hi," I whispered beneath my breath as he straightened out his robes.
"Just watch where you're going next time," he told me. Words that could have sounded cold came out in a soft tone.
"I'm Calista... Calista Costello," I proclaimed as I stood up straight and offered my hand to the boy.
"I'm... Regulus. Black," he offered.
"I think my mother is acquainted with your father," I commented absentmindedly. Regulus' face changed and became blank. Suddenly he was unreadable, he was absent. "Sorry," I murmured. He shook his head before refocusing on me.
"No worries. You're new, correct? The transfer?" He questioned and I nodded. "Then our parents do know each other. My father has talked about you coming."
"Oh?"
"Your American royalty," Regulus said, causing me to burst out laughing.
"Sure, I guess people more superficial than I may see my family that way," I responded.
"... I think we might be friends," he whispered so quietly I almost didn't hear him.
"Friends," I repeated with a smile. "I'd like that."
