I Couldn't Live Without You

Chapter 15

"You killed my brother," I heard Sirius growl.

"It was a sacrifice, he chose to do it," Dumbledore responded.

"The only way he would have left Cali is if he was forced," Sirius growled. "Pick up your wand."

"You can't be serious," Dumbledore chuckled.

"Raise. Your. Wand."

"I'm not going to battle a foolish child."

"I am no child!" Sirius shouted. "That was my brother!"

"A death eater," Dumbledore dismissed. Sirius took a pause for a moment before glaring even harder at Dumbledore.

"He was kind. He was pure. Pick up your fucking wand!" I cradled Regulus tightly to my chest as I continued to try every healing spell I knew. I ran through them all, and when I came to the end of the list, I restarted. He couldn't be gone. He couldn't be.

"Duel me," Sirius growled.

"Only one of us will come out of this," Dumbledore responded.

"What's another Black's death on your hands? You're hands are already drenched in blood, what does mine matter?" he screamed. I cried harder as I couldn't help but look at Sirius. Regulus was dead in my arms... and I couldn't bring him back. Sirius was trying to provoke Dumbledore... I knew Sirius wanted to avenge his brother... but I knew at the same time that Dumbledore would win. Of course he would win. I felt my heart stop for several beats when Dumbledore finally held his wand in hand.

"Fine, you want to do this? Let's do this," Dumbledore stated. I didn't even feel myself moving as the pair started firing off curses. Unforgivable curses. I barely heard the words "Avada Kedavra" come out of Dumbledore's mouth as I threw myself in front of Sirius and my body went limp. There was nothingness. Silence. Death... Peace. I felt an energy to my side and looked over, and there he was. Regulus. My Regulus.

"That was... reckless of you," he murmured.

"I told you... I couldn't live without you."
