Regulus and I didn't know what to do about our situation. It wasn't like anything we'd ever had to deal with before. Voldemort was evil. I hadn't met the guy, but I knew that much. I prayed that I never had to meet the man. I didn't need to feel his energy to know it'd be overwhelming.
Regulus and I decided that no one else could know. Not even Sirius, or the other marauders. Honestly... the two of us became withdrawn. We mostly only spent time with each other, whispering and trying to come up with a solution together.
I was walking down the hall, for once without Regulus, when a hand landed around my arm. I turned around in a fright just to see Sirius.
"You scared me, Siri," I laughed.
"Can we... talk?" He questioned. I had never seen him look so serious... which was ironic, given his name. I nodded reluctantly and the two of us dipped into an abandoned classroom.
"Something's going on," Sirius stated. I didn't nod my head, but I didn't deny it either. "Please, Cali," Sirius' voice cracked and I flinched as I avoided looking up at him.
"It's... it's not my secret, Siri. I... it's not my place."
"You love him, right?" Sirius questioned.
"More than anything," I responded without a thought.
"I can tell that something's wrong, Calista. He isn't okay. I can see it."
"I know, Siri... I'm doing my best."
"Your best for what, Calista?"
"I can't say, you know that!" I snapped back as I finally made eye contact with him. "He confides in me. I won't - I can't break that trust. I know you love him. I know that you're worried. And I wish this was something I could come to you with, and it could all be solved and magicked away, but it can't be, Sirius. It can't be. We're trying. We're really, really trying."
"I... I can't help but feel like he needs me," Sirius sounded defeated.
"I... I'm sorry, Siri. I'm... I'm doing my best. I'm being there for him. I'm doing everything I possibly can. We both are."
"Thank you..." Sirius whispered brokenly.
"I'm sorry, Sirius. I'm really really sorry."
