Dumbledore had been uncomfortably focused on Reg and I lately. The pair of us were paranoid, sure, but Dumbledore had been different. He always seemed to be around the corner. He always seemed to want to talk about something. "How do you feel about your exams?" "What path are you looking to go down when you graduate?" And so on and so on. Especially with Regulus' new... issue, it was putting us both terribly on edge.
I told Reggie about the encounter with Sirius. I could see it break his heart a little, but he knew that we couldn't tell Siri. It'd put him in danger, and it'd put us in danger. We just couldn't risk it.
"Miss Costello," Dumbledore greeted me. I hadn't known he was there, so I jumped before making sure to look at him with a neutral gaze.
"Headmaster," I greeted simply.
"Where is your lovely other half?" He questioned.
"Resting, he's not feeling terribly well this morning," I responded, making sure to keep my tone neutral. Reg wasn't feeling well today, that was the truth. He was sick to his stomach and couldn't shake the sensation of dread that was shrouding him. Summer break was fast approaching... and we didn't know what we were going to do. Reg had to go home, his parents would definitely notice if he didn't. My mom wouldn't, but it's not like I could stay with Reg. We're pretty sure they would frown upon that.
"I do hope he improves soon," Dumbledore said and a chill ran up my back. I couldn't help but feel like he knew. And I couldn't push away the tickle in my brain that was telling me he wasn't a good person. Reg was right. Something bad was coming.
