The months passed quickly and I hadn't heard from my mother once, but I had become close to Regulus as well as his brother and his group of friends. Reggie and his brother had some issues communicating, but the pair did really care about one another. I was gently pushing them to try talking more, with limited success so far.
"Boo," came from behind me as someone's hands curled around my waist causing me to shriek and spin around to face the culprit.
"Not funny Reg!" I yelled as he laughed and leaned on me for support.
"You should've seen your face butterfly, it was priceless!" He said as he tried to calm his laughter. Regulus had taken to calling me butterfly. I didn't really know the reason, one day we were having a picnic out on the Hogwarts lawn and a butterfly flew past. Regulus turned to me after seeing it and smiled.
"She reminds me of you," he told me. I turned to him with a furrowed brow, silently urging him to elaborate. Regulus pointed to the butterfly, a gorgeous yellow and blue butterfly who was perched upon a nearby wildflower.
"Why?" I questioned and he shrugged.
"I can't really put my finger on it," he responded as he leaned back on the blanket, seemingly through with the discussion. Ever since he had taken to calling me butterfly, without ever giving me any further explanation. I'd come to appreciate the nickname even if it still confused me.
"Scaring me is no fun, Reg!"
"It's fun for me," he responded as he properly threw his arm over my shoulder. "You're cute when you're mad," he said affectionately. I was stuck between wanting to smack him and freezing in place as blood rushed to my face, coloring my cheeks. The ladder won.
"Awwh, are you blushing?" He questioned as I turned my head away.
"No," I lied as even more blood rushed to my face.
"You liike me," Reg said in a singsong voice.
"Shut up Reg," I said with a forced laugh, trying to play off his statement, because it was true. I had absolutely fallen for him.
"Hey, you," he said as he hooked a finger under my chin and forced me to look at him, making direct eye contact with me. "It's okay," he whispered as he leaned in to press his lips to mine. My eyes were wide in surprise for only a moment before I melted into him. The kiss didn't last too long, but he rested his forehead against mine as he pulled away. "I like you, too."
