Twenty Nine

I'm walking around the hospital and I meet up with Alex, April and Jackson.

Savannah: hey!

Alex: hey.

I hand Jackson a cup of coffee and he throws his arm around my shoulders as we approach Cristina, who had returned to work, and Meredith.

Jackson: what is this, everybody got paged?

Alex: it's that time of year again. The chicks have hatched.

April: is that some sort of code?

Alex: those chicks.

We all walk into the main area, and I smile as Chief Webber and Lexie walk up to us... with med students behind them.

Savannah: hell yeah.

I'm so excited to teach a young mind.

Cristina: oh, first-year med students. Too dumb to find the toilet.

I snatch Cristina on the arm.

Webber: good morning. Behind me stand the interns and residents of tomorrow. Today, you will show them what it's like to be a surgeon. When you go into surgery, they go into surgery. When they have a question, you will answer.

Cristina: it's like court-ordered community service.

Meredith: I'd rather be picking up trash off the side of the highway.

I smack both Meredith and Cristina on the arm as Lexie assigns our med students.

Lexie: Fred Wilson, you're with Dr. Yang. Kira Donnelley, with Dr. Grey. Hudson Powell, with Dr. Kepner. Laurel Pinson...

I hear Alex and Jackson start to argue over Laurel, causing me to roll my eyes.

Alex: mine.

Jackson: mine.

Alex: mine.

Lexie: Laurel, you're... with Dr. Karev. Edward Taylor, Dr. Avery. And Sam Davidson, you are with Dr. Collins.

I step forward to greet my med student.

Savannah: hi, Sam. I'm Dr. Savannah Collins. It's nice to meet you.

Sam: hi, Dr. Collins. I can't wait to learn from you.

Savannah: I'm excited to teach you.

Then, I hear Webber speak up.

Webber: I will be picking my Chief Resident in a few months, and you're still a prime candidate.

My ears perk up when I hear Chief Resident.

Meredith: the race for Chief Resident is on?

Alex: since when?

April: uh, how long have you been evaluating us?

Webber: since your first day here.

Savannah: wow. Okay, so you and I will be with Dr. Callie Torres today on Ortho. Dr. Torres is the head of Ortho, and she is a brilliant surgeon and a good friend of mine. Let's head down to the pit, and you can tell me about yourself.

Sam and I chat as we make our way to the pit and we grab our trauma gowns.

Savannah: so we use these trauma gowns for every trauma that comes into the ambulance bay.

Once I had my gown tied, we run out to the ambulance bay and met up with Callie, Owen, Jackson and his med student.

Savannah: good morning, Owen.
