I'm on the phone with Derek as I'm getting ready for work.

Me- I can't wait to see you this afternoon. You've been in DC so long, I'm slowly losing my neuro drive.
Derek- actually, I'm not gonna be there until tonight.
Me- tonight? But you're supposed to have your surgery with Mer this afternoon.
Derek- another meeting popped up. Amy will be covering it for me.
Me- okay. Get your ass back here soon, dude. I miss you.
Derek- miss you too. Could you check on Amy for when you can?
Me- I'll try. Hey, I need to get to work. I have a full day of board duties, calls with my mother, and I want to check in on Braden Morris.
Derek- good luck with that.
Me- thanks. Call you later. Bye.

Jackson walks into the room as I end the call.

Jackson: talking to Derek?

Savannah: mhmm. Come on. Let's get going, or else we're gonna get distracted by our daughter's cuteness. Yes, we will. Yes, we will.

Jackson chuckles as we get Cathy in her basket then we drive to work. When we get to the hospital, we bump into Amy.

Savannah: good morning, Amy.

Amy: hi, Savannah. Hi, Dr. Avery.

Jackson: hi, Dr. Shepherd. I'll take Cathy to daycare.

Jackson kisses my cheek then takes Cathy to daycare.

Amy: waffle?

Savannah: ooh, yes, please! I'm starving.

I smile as I take the waffle.

Savannah: you're awesome. Hey, Derek told me you're covering his surgery this afternoon.

Amy: I am. You wanna scrub in with me?

Savannah: I wish I could, but I have a bunch of things to do today.

I see Owen come over to me.

Owen: uh, hey. Sorry to interrupt, but we have a legal problem.

I let out a sigh.

Savannah: I hate those words with a passion. I'll text Jackson, he went to take Cathy to daycare. I'll see you later, Amy.

I text Jackson as I follow Owen.

Me: we've got a legal problem. Meet Owen and I in the conference room ASAP.

Savannah: who's involved?

Owen: Bailey, Edwards, and the Morris family.

Savannah: damn it.

Me: it's Bailey, Edwards and the Morris family. It must be bad, babe.

I'm sitting next to Jackson in the conference room as we discuss the situation.

Lawyer: parents authorized your treatment with signed consent.

Bailey: yes.

Lawyer: then they told Dr. Edwards that they changed their minds.

Edwards: yes.

Lawyer: Dr. Edwards informed you, Dr. Bailey, of the parents' withdrawal of consent.

B&E: yes.

Lawyer: and then you gave the patient the stem-cell transplant anyway.

Bailey nods.

Lawyer: have you told anyone else about this?
