I wake up to the sound of my son fussing, and I open my eyes to see an empty bassinet.

Savannah: wha– what's going on?

I notice mom in the room, and I see her holding my son in her arms.

Mom: oh, hey. I'm here, I'm here. He was just fussing a little bit, so I thought you could use the sleep, and I just swooped him up. We are bonding. Somebody's just fascinated with their grandma. Riveted. Yeah. How are you feeling, dear?

Savannah: I'm okay. A little sore, though.

Mom: oh, no doubt. Savannah, baby, I can't believe what you went through.

Savannah: worth it. Worth every second.

Mom: he's beautiful. He's absolutely beautiful. I just wish I knew what to call him.

Savannah: Jackson didn't tell you? Where's Jackson?

Mom: I just got here. Jackson got called for an emergency patient.

Savannah: who's the patient?

Mom: Andrew DeLuca?

Savannah: oh my god. DeLuca? Oh my god! I-I need to find out what's going on.

Mom: sweetie, calm down. You need to relax. Come on, tell me his name.

I let out a deep breath.

Savannah: I can't lie, I was thinking of more boy names than girl names. I had a few good names in mind, one of them more distinct than the others. We wanted it to be strong, memorable. The second I looked into his eyes... I knew. Her name is Shawn. Shawn Everett Avery-Collins.

Mom: Shawn Everett Avery. It's perfect. It flows.

Savannah: Shawn is mine, Everett is Jackson to honor Mark.

Mom: Shawn would be thrilled. So would Sloan.

Just then, I see Jeremy walk in.

Jeremy: hello.

Savannah: hi! Come in.

Jeremy: hi, Catherine.

Mom: hi, Jeremy, dear.

Jeremy: how're you doing, rockstar? I heard what happened.

Savannah: I'm alive.

Jeremy: yeah, and I'm glad you are. Hey, look at that handsome little man. Hey, kiddo. I'm your uncle Jeremy. Your mom is a total badass. You have the greatest parents ever.

I smile at Jeremy.

Savannah: hey, do you know anything about DeLuca?

Jeremy: he's going into surgery in a bit. He's got a grade four hyphema.

Savannah: oh my god.

Jeremy: Jackson's gonna operate right away.

Savannah: do we know what happened to him?
