Taeko Miyazaki

Taeko had taken a step closer to the small flower and the butterfly flying around it in front of her. What could it be doing there? And in a house?

This was all too strange for her. She stepped closer to extend a hand to the butterfly. However, as soon as she was close to the butterfly, she retracted her hand back. Why?

She noticed that the butterfly was sprinkling something around the flower. It looked... purple. Taeko had blinked her eyes in confusion, before continuing to stare. However, the flower suddenly sprouted... vines?

And the vines were launched towards the brunette girl, causing her to jump back. She immediately draws her sword, her eyes on the butterfly and the flower. However, the flower had sprouted its vines once more. Taeko had dodged in the nick of time, as she didn't expect.

The butterfly was still flying around the flower. Taeko had blinked her eyes, wondering what the butterfly had to do with this.

After a few seconds of thinking, her eyes had widened, seeing more vines coming towards her. She was lucky that the vines didn't go a very far distance. She was able to put two and two together.

Some demons had set the butterfly and flower there as a trap. The butterfly was fluttering around the flower, sprinkling the purple substance onto it, causing the flower to summon vines as its power. And judging from the butterfly, Taeko had a feeling that it was poison of some sort.

The next thing she knew, she sees the butterfly fly away, carrying the flower with it. The girl had frowned, seeing how harmful it was just now. However, a gut feeling was telling her that it wasn't a normal flower or butterfly.

It was from a demon. The butterfly and flower... reminded her of two people.

Before Taeko could stand up, she noticed a scroll on the floor, next to the elderly man. The girl had stared in curiosity. Her hand had reached for the scroll, as she unrolled it, seeing some writing on it. She had decided to read it over.

To whom reads this letter,

My wife and I have owned this mansion for years. Ever since it was passed down to us, we have been trying our best to keep this place alive. However, we are both getting old, and we don't have any children to pass this down to when we are gone. I fear what would happen to this place if we aren't around.

I fear that people might take this place for granted. That they won't appreciate it. That they won't be happy with it. I also fear that... people would break this place down, due to envy. What do we do?

And lately, there are... monsters trying to break into our house. Trying to burn our house to ash, thievery, and so forth. I've been told that... there's demons around. The environment around us used to be so peaceful. What happened? My wife and I cannot handle this any longer. We are at an age where we will meet our end. So... whoever finds this letter...

Don't take this place for granted. Appreciate it for what it's worth, before it could be gone. I hope that another kind person can make home in this place and make it better for themselves. Cherish it. You don't have to own it all to yourself to make yourself happy. Share it.

Signed,

Haru Kobayashi

Taeko had frowned, seeing the letter. Despite the elderly couple being killed by demons, she had felt pity for the two. She remembered that her parents had told her the same thing growing up as a child.

Appreciate what you have around you. Because if you don't, then it could be gone before you know it.

Taeko had sucked in a breath, before placing a hand on her chest. She then nodded slowly, before gently grabbing ahold of the elderly man's body.

Before she knew it, she was outside, doing a burial for the elderly couple, near the mansion. She had put her hands together, closing her eyes. She then slowly stood up on her feet.

"I'll make this place a safe place to stay for myself and others. I'll share it. I can promise you that."

That was all the girl had muttered out loud. However, her words were genuine. She had walked over back to the mansion, as she looked around. The mansion was relatively clean, but some things were broken.

Taeko had a feeling that the demons had broken into the house the other night, since it was only morning right now. However...

Why did that butterfly and flower look familiar to her? It had been 5 months, and Taeko had been trying to forget it. However, the events kept coming back to her every time.

As she walked around the mansion a bit, trying to explore, she had found more and more of what was within the home.

There was a kitchen of some sort, some bedrooms, around 7-8 bedrooms to be exact. Some of them had one bed, while some had two. Taeko also found out that there was a garden outside behind the mansion as well.

There were a lot more things that Taeko had found out herself. She had scratched her head, trying to find out how to fix the place. At first, she did feel guilty about taking over the mansion for herself. However, remembering the letter, she decided to listen to her head for once.

There were no other people around her that she would look for to live with. Would Taeko even feel happy about staying in a place such as this?

Taeko's family wasn't well off when she was a child, so she always appreciated the little things around her. So, she was completely unsure about this.

However, her head had told her otherwise. After walking around for another few minutes to see if there was anything she was missing, she decided to clean the place up.

She knew that she had to do something about the rooms. Not a lot was disorganized, but she just wanted to make sure.

The girl had taken a deep breath, clenching her fists for a moment.

This girl had a lot of work to do.
