Perhaps this was the way things were gonna go. That's what Diluc assumed. When he woke up, Jean was gone. You might assume she was already up, showering or eating breakfast. No. Her stuff, her clothes, everything she owned was gone. Her presence too. A loud sigh came from him as he searched every room in the winery. She was nowhere to be seen, not even a small note that told him she was safe. He didn't want to go to the knights, that would embarrass him, especially since few people knew why he left in the first place.
Things were supposed to be getting better, they were gonna be okay again. That wasn't the case, he knew that, now he did at least. He decided to just simply try his best to not think about her, he managed when she first broke up with her, so why not now? He went on with his day, made sure to do some paperwork, and worked at Angel's Share during the evening. Venti and Kaeya were there, per usual, but no Jean, no Lisa, nobody else.
"What's with the low face, Luc?" Kaeya asked, looking at his brother, with a tilted head. "Nothing." Diluc brushed it off, as he continued serving his customers. Hours went by, and eventually Venti and Kaeya left. Diluc was alone again, he always was. For once in his life, he hated it, a lot. He just decided to take a trip to windrise.
His future self would've stopped him from doing that, but the damage was already done, and he was already standing behind the blonde knight who was praying at the statue. He stood there for a while, before he spoke up.
"You left without saying goodbye. You didn't even leave a letter." He mumbled to her, and it seemed like she froze in place.
"I'm sorry." Jean responded, as she just looked up at the statue of Barbatos.
"If you don't want there to be an 'us' anymore, then say just that, instead of giving me false hope again." Diluc blurted out, and just glared at her.
Jean seemed to turn around, and just stood there, looking at him before she sighed. "There is no us then, not anymore."
Diluc's eyes widened. She had given up on them? There was no way she had.
"What changed your mind?" He asked her, but she just remained silent, as if she was hesitant.
"Duties, i can't be with you, Diluc." She said, before she picked up her sword, and brushed past him, starting to walk back to the city.
"Goodbye Diluc." She looked back, before she continued walking.
He was frozen in place. He wanted to run after her, tell her how much he loved her, and that he never wanted to let her go. But, he didn't, he didn't say something, or do something. Just stood there. Losing her. He lost her a long time ago, and just didn't realise it.
"Goodbye." He mumbled, before he finally got his strength back from his previous paralysed body. He started walking back home to the winery. He felt like a complete mess, a stranger to Jean. She didn't want anything to do with him anymore. It felt so unreal. But, he finally made it back, and just locked himself in his office. He slept on the couch of his office that night, thinking of Jean, and how he could make up for whatever he had done to her. There must've been something that he could do.
Right?
