He cupped her face and smiled.
"Thank God! Mujhe laga tu kabhi mujhse baat nhi kregi dobara."
They shared an intense eyelock but before any of them could say anything they heard a voice call her name.
Seeing the person their smiles vanished.
Varun stood there with a smile on his face.
"Are you free for a minute? Kuch baat krni thi."
He said looking at Navya and she looked at Ahaan not knowing what to answer.
He gulped the uneasy feeling and rubbed her back discretely giving her courage.
"I am at the desk."
He said and left the two alone with a smile as if it didn't kill him.
Navya kept looking at his retreating back until she heard Varun call her name.
"Can we speak now?"
He asked and she nodded trying to smile.
"Umm-are you-I mean-are you free after work. Can we go out for coffee?"
She was shocked. But that's it. The butterflies and giddiness she was expecting didn't happen. She should be jumping with happiness that her crush was finally asking her out. But she wasn't happy. She wanted to go back to Ahaan. See whether he was alright.
"I-I actually have plans tonight."
She lied. He smiled and said.
"No problem! Tomorrow or day after tomorrow. Whenever suits you."
"I am busy this week."
"Oh! So jab bhi chal sko."
"I'll let you know."
She replied in a weak voice. She didn't want to go out him. He smiled and nodded and she headed back to her desk. She saw Ahaan quickly emerse himself in work as he saw her coming.
"What did he want to talk about?"
She had not even sat properly and he questioned. A smile formed on her face seeing his restlessness.
"He asked me out for coffee."
She replied and she saw the light in his eyes diminish.
"Oh! That's -umm-that's great! I mean this was what we wanted right. Our plan is working."
He said trying to sound cheerful and looked back at his screen. More precisely glare at it.
"So? Kab hai ye date?"
He asked emphasizing on the word 'date' a little more than required.
"Not decided yet."
She replied looking at his face. He nodded and her gaze fell on his hands.
His large, veiny hands. The hands that were grabbing her hair and fingers dugging in her waist the previous night. She gulped and looked at his face. His lips. The same lips which were on her skin. Those sinfully magical lips.
She looked away shaking her head to remove the thoughts and muttered to herself to focus on work.
Almost two weeks later it was their company's 30th anniversary.
Navya was still giving excuses to Varun who seemed adamant to go on a date with her.
"What color are you wearing tomorrow?"
Ahaan asked her over call and she frowned replying.
"Pastel green. Kyu?"
"I don't have a pastel green suit but I think I do have a matching tie."
He muttered to himself which she heard and there she goes with the butterflies.
"You're going to match my outfit?"
She asked and bit her lip when he replied.
"Haan! Tabhi toh we'd look like the perfect couple na."
Why was he hell bent on making her fall in love with him more than she already was.
Yeah! She realised she was in love with him and what he felt for Varun was just a harmless crush which like every other crush had faded away.
Ahaan reached her home the next day. The day of the anniversary party of their company.
"Namaste aunty! Namaste uncle! Kaise ho aap dono?"
He asked bending to touch their feet. Her mother loved him. He was a perfect gentleman.
"Arre Ahaan! Aao beta. Bada handsome lag rha hai. Kitna time ho gaya ghar aaye tujhe."
She complained and Ahaan remembered what happened the last time he was here. With Navya. Just the two of them.
His ears turned pink and he replied.
"Kaam se thak itna jaata hu aunty. Next time aaunga pakka. Tab tasalli se baat krenge."
He lived away from his family and she was a mother figure to him.
"Abhi late ho rha hai. Navya ready nhi hui kya?"
He asked and her mother smiled.
"Ready hai. Navya! Bahar aa beta. Ahaan aa gaya."
Her mother called for her and they heard her voice saying she would be there in 2 minutes.
And a minute later he heard the soft click of heels and saw her coming out of the room with a small purse in her hand.
Ahaan felt like he would die today. She looked perfect. The pastel green gown hugged her body perfectly. She had put her hair in a high messy bun which exposed her neck to his predator eyes.
Her long, slender neck called for his lips to attack it. He looked away clearing his throat and thoughts away.
"Shall we?"
He asked and she nodded. Her mood a little down. She was expecting a compliment from him.
She bid her parents a bye and moved out behind him.
He stopped in front of the car and looked at her.
Do I not look ok?"
She asked nervously avoiding his intense gaze. He sighed as if he was having a tough time controlling himself.
"You-you look gorgeous."
He breathed and she ducked her head in shyness. The rawness in his voice made her feel shy. He looked at her as if he wanted to eat her up. The thought made her stomach churn with giddiness.
"I have something for you. Give me your hand."
She frowned but forwarded her hand. He shook his head and pointed to her left hand. She put it forward and he turned her hand slipping a ring on her ring finger making her gasp.
"He is going to burn with jealously now."
He mumbled making her frown.
"Who?"
"Varun."
"Varun?"
He nodded and her smile fell.
"You got this because you wanted to make Varun jealous."
She thought he bought it for her. He smiled and shook his head.
"Nah! Saw it aur dekhte hi pasand aa gyi. So I bought it for you. But jealous krne ke kaam bhi aa skti hai."
He said and she bit her lip smiling. He got it for her.
