Liliana

My heart thumps so loudly inside my rib cage that it can burst anytime. Has anyone told me something beautiful yet dangerous? No. No one ever told me this. For the first time in my entire life, someone's making me feel comfortable, someone making me feel significant and valuable.

“Why do you care?” I ask and he squeezes my thigh gently, making me feel calm. My chest heaves normally as my breathing gets calm by the time we moved from the police station and I was feeling like a criminal. “Because, you're mine.” He says and I take a big gulp, swallow my emotions which are trying to make me cry.

“That's it?” I whisper, he's rubbing my thigh gently. Up and down. “Yes.” He replies calmly and I sigh.”Nothing else?” I whisper, hoping he would tell me something in return but the answer never comes out. “I can’t let people harass someone who is mine. You’re mine and it’s my responsibility to save you even if I need to kill someone, I would do that gladly.” He says and I bite my lower lip hard. This is maddening.

I think about Mum, I didn’t see her from the moment the police arrested me. Does she think like others? Like I tried to kill Lucas? “Did my mother come to visit me? Do you know anything about it?” I ask, hoping for a positive answer, however, his words just crash my heart into pieces.

“No, she didn’t come to see you.” He replies and my lips quiver, I look outside the window, watching the busy city. “Do you think she's assuming like others? Like I tried to kill Lucas?” I ask without looking at him. “Does it count how your mother thinks about you?” He asks and I sigh.

“She's my mother, Jungkook—”

“A mother you're trying so hard to get some attention shouldn’t be considered a mother, right?”

“Is it wrong? I love her, I respect her.” I whisper and take a deep breath. I take a deep gulp, trying to swallow all of the emotions. This is getting so hard for me, the disapproval from my mother, I tried so freaking hard to gain her attention, yet, I’m invisible to her. She hates me. She thinks I’m a killer.

I was a sucker of love and affection, I wanted it for my whole life. What did I not do? I did everything to get her attention, I did everything to receive some love and affection from her. It’s not like she neglected me but she acted like I’m more of a responsibility than a little girl who needed a bunch of love to heal her inner self. She never understood me. Never.

My chest becomes too heavy to the point that I can’t even breathe properly, I need to engulf more oxygen to fill my lungs. The car stops in a halt as I feel Jungkook unclip my seatbelt and wrap his fingers around my forearm and yanks me to him to face him. I stare down at his spreading legs and he lifts his hand to trace his finger underneath my chin and lifts my face upwards to face him.
