Leah's pov
As soon as I got into my car, I broke down. What the hell did I get myself into? I had to be composed and have my act together while dealing with her, but damn. It was affecting me.
All of the stress and tension leaving my body, I closed my eyes to take a couple of deep breaths. I connected my phone to my car and started to call the only person who would know how to deal with this. I waited until she picked up.
"Hey pumpkin." I smiled and started to drive down the street to my own house. "Hey mum." Apparently she could hear some kind of stress in my voice. "What's going on?"
I took a deep breath and kept concentrating on the road. "Mum, it's Anouk. I have never met someone who is so beautiful yet such a wreck. She texted me last night to come over. She was really drunk so I took care of her and brought her to bed. She didn't want to fall asleep without me so I stayed over. This morning I took care of her and I'm now driving home to get some of my stuff and then I will be going back to her house for a few days." When I was done ranting, my mum stayed quiet for some time. "And she doesn't have any family?" I shook my head, but then realised that she couldn't see me. "No. At least, as far as I know, it's not any family that she can or wants to have any contact with. I am staying in contact with her best friend and I have been asking her for advice. But I just... I worry about her mum."
There was a silence, indicating that she was thinking about what I had been saying. I pulled up in my driveway and switched the call to my phone before cutting the engine.
"I know that you're worried about her pumpkin. I don't think that Anouk is a person who just lets anyone in. She trusts you, but you shouldn't become her therapist. You should still support her through whatever she is going through. Ask her if she wants professional help. I know that you all have a therapist at Arsenal. I know how that sounds, but I do believe that that is the best thing for her. And if you were wondering, I fully support the two of you. I saw the match against Manchester United. I don't think that anyone has ever looked at you the way that she looks at you."
I was flabbergasted. How in the world does this woman always know what to say and do? I stayed silent, letting her words sink in. "Wait, what do you mean with the last bit?" She chuckled. "After she scored that amazing goal. You comforted her. I don't think that you saw how she looked at you because you were focused on getting back into position, but those eyes spoke the language of love. Now go pack your bags and get back to her."
I smiled to myself. "Thanks mum. You're truly the best." I could hear her smile through the phone. "You're welcome pumpkin." "How are dad and Jacob doing?" "They are doing good sweety. They miss you. I will see you during your upcoming match against Fiorentina!" "Alright mum, can't wait to see you again. Love you!" "Love you too pumpkin! Keep me posted!" "I will, bye!" I hung up the phone, calm again. My mum always knew what to do and how to deal with me. She's amazing.
I got out of my car, locked it and entered my house. I went straight to my bedroom and grabbed my duffelbag. I put my essentials in it and then grabbed some clothing. I went around the house next, finding and packing everything that I needed and then I got back into my car and drove back to Anouk's house.
The drive was short and I got my bag and locked my car. She had left the door unlocked after I had left and I let myself in, locking it behind me. I walked up the stairs and back into Anouk's bedroom where she was laying exactly how I left her, only asleep while I still heard Jackie talk through the phone. I smiled at their friendship.
I carefully sat down besides her and said her name, gently stroking her cheek. I didn't care if Jackie saw it. I flashed her a quick smile and she greeted me. I put my attention back on Anouk. I kissed her forehead and that seemed to do the trick. Her eyes slowly fluttered open and she looked at me. "You came back." I smiled at her and stroked her hair. "Of course I came back. I'm your girlfriend now after all, if you want me to be." She groaned as I used her own words of last night but twisted them slightly, but soon a smile came on her face as she realised what I had said. "Wait, you mean it?" I nodded my head. "Well, yeah, you dummy." She smiled. "I would absolutely love to be your girlfriend."
