~ Chapter 42: Out Of All People ~

~ Huey ~

I looked ahead from my side of the booth to Jazmine.

She smiled brightly as she ate from her ice cream sundae.

"Are you happy now?" I asked as she giggled. "Yes. Yes I am."

I playfully rolled my eyes.

"I told you to get some." Jazmine then said as I gave her a look.

"I refuse to purchase anything from a shop named Freezy Weezy."

Jazmine started to laugh as I shook my head, but couldn't help but smirk slightly.

However, I keep looking down at my phone, monitoring the tracking device I placed on Todd Bugsley's car.

Before Jazmine asked me to take her out for ice cream, I had intentions to confront him tonight.

I'm a step closer to confirming the truth and I don't want to waste a lot of time.

But for some reason, I couldn't say no to Jazmine's request.

"Huey?"

I looked up from my phone, seeing her looking at me.

"Hm?"

"I have to ask." She began, placing her sundae down and twirling her spoon. "All of this 'need to know' basis stuff you're doing..."

I quirked my eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.

"You're not in any danger, are you?" Jazmine asked, a genuine look of concern on her face. "Like, nothing you're doing is gonna get you hurt, right?"

I could see the worry in her eyes, causing my expression to soften.

I then leaned forward.

"Jazmine. I assure you. Right now, I am not in any danger." I told her reassuringly.

After a second, I heard her take a slight breath of relief.

"Good." Jazmine smiled, as I could see a hint of pink on her cheeks.

"Hey Jazmine."

We both looked to see Mark standing there.

"M-Mark, hey!" Jazmine smiled nervously before turning to me. "You remember Huey?"

"Yeah, hey man." Mark nodded at me.

"Mark." I responded plainly.

"...So what're you doing here?" Jazmine asked as Mark shrugged. "Was just in the mood for some ice cream."

He then looked between Jazmine and I.

"What about you two? You guys on a date?"

"N-No! No!" Jazmine nervously chuckled again, looking towards me. "Not a date, w-we were just-"

"We had just finished studying." I then said as she nodded her head.

"Perfect." Mark nodded. "Then you don't mind if I join you?" He looked towards me, a slight look of challenge in his eye.

"Not at all." I responded as he sat next to Jazmine, wrapping his arm around her.

I could tell she was uncomfortable by the situation by the way her face flushed.

"Did you get my flowers?" Mark then asked her. "Y-Yes! They were lovely." Jazmine smiled before lookimg at me.

I raised my eyebrow. "Flowers?"

"Um yeah... Mark suprised me with roses on my locker today." Jazmine said hesitantly.

"I didn't know what you favourite flower was, but I thought I could only go right with roses." He flashed a smile at her.
