~ Huey ~

My mind started to run wild as I stared at Ebony's note in my hand, re-reading it over and over.

No...

Why would she do this?

Especially now?

Damnit!

As I looked at the note, I noticed teardrops on the paper.

Ebony was crying when she wrote this.

I wiped one of the teardrops, feeling that the paper was still damp.

She wrote this recently, which means she couldn't have gone too far.

I immediately ran out the room, down the stairs, and out the front door.

I quickly got into my truck, speeding out of the driveway, and down the street.

Despite the darkness, I tried my best to look out for anyone walking on the sidewalk.

Damnit Ebony...

As I turned down a street, I saw a figure walking with a bag in their hand.

That's her.

I quickly parked, getting out the truck and jogging towards her.

"Ebony!"

Ebony froze, hearing my call, but then quickly started to run off.

"Ebony! Ebony!" I ran after her.

"Go home, Huey!" She called back, continuing to run.

I caught up to her, grabbing onto her arm and turning her to face me.

"Funny. I came to tell you the same thing." I scowled until I saw the tears in Ebony's eyes.

Her eyes were bloodshot red, as if she'd been crying for hours.

"P-Please Huey... Just go home." Ebony tried to get out my grasp.

"I'm not going anywhere." I held onto her tightly.

"What is going on? Why did you leave that note?"

"H-Huey just-"

"Ebony." I said sternly, awaiting an answer.

There was a moment of silence until her lip began to quiver. Suddenly, a mountain of tears started to pour out of her eyes.

She started to break down, sobbing, holding her face in her hands.

"I-I just... I c-can't do it anymore, Huey!"

"Do what?" I asked genuinely, still holding onto her.

"H-Hurting people! I-I can't!"

"Who? Who have you hurt?" "Who haven't I hurt!?" Ebony snapped, wiping her eyes.

"I-I'm the reason my parents were in debt! My dad was the way he was in the end because of me!" She cried as I shook my head. "No, Ebony-"

"Then my m-mom left me! But who can blame her!? It's my fault he abused her in the first place!" Ebony wept, wincing, and holding onto her head.

"A-A-And Trisha..."

She started to sob more as I looked to her confusedly. "What about Trisha?"

"...H-Her dad's dead because of me. Her dad was the officer my d-dad shot."

My eyes widened slightly as I watched her wail.

"I g-got her dad killed."

"That wasn't your fault." I shook my head.
