I rushed through the doors of Wuncler Hospital, immediately making my way to the front desk.
"Excuse me, nurse?" I asked the woman with dark skin and curly hair, typing on her keyboard.
She glanced up at me with attitude.
"That's Nurse Lewis to you."
I scowled.
Clearly I could care less about her name right now.
"I need to see my sister. Where is she?"
"Little afro boy, you need to sit in the waiting area. We have a lot of patients right now-"
"Like I give a damn about your other patients." I shot back. "My sister was in a car accident and I need to see her."
Nurse Lewis rolled her eyes before looking at her clip board.
"What's her name?"
"Ebony. Ebony Freeman."
"No."
"No?" I quirked my eyebrow.
"No, she's not here."
What the hell?
"She just called me." I retorted.
"No. I see an Ebony Bridgewater, but not an Ebony Freeman."
Is she kidding me?
"That's her." I groaned.
"Excuse me?"
"That's my sister."
Nurse Lewis raised her eyebrow at me. "You just said her name is Freeman."
"Yes, Bridgewater-Freeman. Do you need her whole life story or can I see my sister?" I asked impatiently.
"Little boy, please don't give me an attitude."
I glared at her darkly. She tried to keep an unfazed demeanor, but I saw her move uneasily in her seat.
She glanced at the clipboard again. "Room 122."
I immediately started walking down the hallway, in the direction of the room.
When I found it, I opened the door to see Ebony who was sitting on an examination bed, having her arm put into a sling by the doctor.
I saw Jacob standing near her nervously, and looked more nervous when I glared at him.
"You must be Ebony's brother." The doctor smiled as I walked towards her.
"Is she okay?" I asked. "Huey, I told you I was fine." Ebony sighed.
"I'm asking the doctor."
"She is fine. I assure you." The doctor nodded. "The car got the worst of it. All Ebony has is a shoulder dislocation."
"All she has?" I scowled. "Her arm is in a damn sling."
"Huey, calm down." Ebony touched my shoulder.
"You were in a car accident, Ebony."
Jacob then stepped up. "Look man-"
"You shut the hell up." I glared at him.
"Huey!"
"Huey, Ebony is going to be fine." The doctor intervened calmly. "In a few weeks her shoulder will be as good as new. I'll give you all a minute, and you can fill out the discharge papers when you're ready."
