Voices.

All I can hear is voices.

Faint voices.

So close yet so far at the same time.

There's also a sound of beeping around me.

Along with the sound of footsteps rushing around.

My eyelids feel so heavy, I can barely move them.

Everything is dark.

Then I hear,

"C'mon doc? Have you heard anything yet?"

Mr. Freeman.

"Aye! You niggas better tell us what's happenin' to Ebbzy?"

Riley.

"Is there any update at all doctor?"

Huey.

Then I hear,

"We're doing the best we can."

All of a sudden, everything appears very bright.

All is white now.

Until...

I'm back.

I'm in the living room of my childhood home.

I gasp, looking around in confusion.

I then pause as I hear the lovely tune of a piano.

I walk towards the sound, seeing her.

My mother.

I look at her play our piano with such grace . Something she would always do to lift our spirits after my father would abuse us.

My eyes flood with tears as she looks towards me with a smile.

"Hey baby."

"Mama!" I exclaimed before I ran over to her, hugging her tightly. She slightly chuckled before hugging me back.

I then quickly jumped back, looking around for my dad. I then saw my mother shake her head, while touching my arm.

"He's not here, baby. Don't worry."

I felt relieved, but also confused. The last thing I remembered was getting shot, alongside my father.

"Is he... dead?" I asked hesitantly.

My mother sighed deeply before nodding her head. "Yes baby."

Tears began to pour out my eyes as my body shook. "A-Are you dead? Am I d-dead?"

"No baby."

"This isn't real, is it?" I asked sadly. "You're not really here."

"Baby-" "What is happening, m-mama?"

"You need to wake up now, baby. You're not dead honey but you're close." My mom said. "God's not finished with you yet. The Freemans are waiting for you. So you need to wake up for mommy. Can you do that?"

I felt my eyes sting, as I began to walk backwards, away from my mother.

"W-Why should I do that for you?" My voice cracked. "When you left me all alone in that house?"

I saw my mother look at me with sad eyes. "Ebony-"

"Y-You left me there!" I cried, stomping my foot.

"Sweetie, please calm down-"
