The funeral was beautiful.

His family was there and just seeing their faces broke my heart. Stassie sat with Cliffs parents, and I sat next to Kirk.

His hand slipped into mine and I squeezed it.

It was still raining outside and I knew it was Cliff sending a message. They started talking about Cliff's life and it made me even more sad.

How are we celebrating his life? He barely even lived. I blinked back tears, I had to be strong.

For Kirk, for Stassie. For Cliff.

I looked over at Stassie. She had tears streaming down her face as she looked down.

My heart trembled with sadness. I couldn't take it anymore. I pulled Kirk into a hug and just cried. He held me close to him and I shook my head.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." I started.

Kirk shushed me, "Don't apologize."

My hands met his face as I helped wipe tears away.

I got up and walked to the bathroom. I didn't want to make a scene, but I just couldn't stop crying.

It doesn't make sense. Even if God was real. Then how could he have let this happen.

Someone tapped my shoulder.

I turned around and she held a tissue up to me.

I didn't recognize her at first, because she had a black veil like thing covering her face.

"Julissa"? I asked.

"Hi Dalia." She said in return.

"I didn't know you were here. Are you sitting with James"? I asked.

She shook her head, "No. And please don't tell him I'm here."

"Julissa. He needs you. He's all alone." I started.

She shook her head, "He doesn't need me Dalia. He needs Cliff." Julissa replied.

I stood there quiet. "You introduced James and Cliff, right"? I asked.

She shook her head. "Cliff introduced me to James. I came because I had to see he had a proper goodbye."

"Are you leaving now"? I asked.

"Yeah. I don't want to be the odd one out." She handed me an envelope, "I heard you paid for all of this."

I opened the envelope and saw a bunch of cash in there, "Julissa no." I started.

"Dalia. You're a college student, and you're broke. Just let me do this one thing, please." Julissa replied.

I sighed and put the envelope in my purse.

I looked up at her and studied her face. "You look older." I said.

"Well 2 years will do that do an 18 year old." She replied with a smile.

I always forgot how young Julissa was. Her baby face had matured more and her cheekbones were more defined. She was truly a beautiful girl.

"So are you gonna tell me where you disappeared to"? I asked.

"I went back to Mexico for a bit. I'm on the national basketball team there." She said.

"Wow Julissa. That's amazing. You're not doing anything bad though"? I asked.

She bit her lip, "Listen Dalia. I do what I have to. Going back to Mexico meant moving back in with my family." She said quietly.

"But Julissa. You're so much better than all of that." I replied.
